Here’s something we stumbled across and wanted to share with folks who aren’t yet Delta Million Milers.
There’s an active page on Delta.com (for now) where people can register for lifetime Delta Silver Medallion status. (Actually, it’s “annual” because the word “lifetime” wording gets dicey for the airline.)
To be 100% honest: we’re guessing the offer is somewhat outdated. The invitation allows Flying Colonels to claim annual Silver Medallion status. Flying Colonel is sort of akin to Delta 360 now. (I’ve read stories about how someone had to nominate you, a Delta rep took you out for coffee or lunch and gave you a plaque, and all sorts of exciting stuff.) Plus, it mentions perks related to Y, B, and M fares. (Fare class was essential for upgrades back in the days before Delta changed its upgrade priority to a status-first system.)
Update: based on comments we’re receiving, it appears the promotion is, indeed, done-zo.
So, Why Bother?!
I can hear people tapping and clicking on their social media programs to write, “CLICK BAIT!”
Hang on just a darn second.
Keep in mind this Delta IT we’re talking about.
- Remember how some Medallions didn’t get free drink coupons and others got too many?
- Fun fact: when I hit my Delta Amex MQD waiver and requalified for 2024 Medallion status, I received, like, eight (8) more.
- Or how about expiring but hidden Delta airfare credit?
- How about pre-ordering meals when flying First Class?
- Isn’t phantom upgrade space frustrating?
- My wife and I — and plenty more Delta Amex cardholders — didn’t like having to wait for MQD Waiver totals to update in a timely fashion. (Especially before a recent trip.)
- And that’s when the MQD Waiver numbers are not entirely wiped out.
Glitches and mistakes can happen. We wonder if some folks in our reading audience will somehow qualify for lifetime annual Delta Silver Medallion status through registering. (Plus, there’s always the chance an old Flying Colonel abandoned the program and happens to be reading the blog today.)
Here is the page. (Exit row seats and Main Cabin 1 boarding for life, baby!)
Remember, Million Milers get lifetime annual Delta Silver Medallion status, so there’s no point in them registering. I tried with my family members and had no luck.
Maybe you’ll slip through the cracks. The upside: you become an annual Silver Medallion today. Downside: you spent two minutes reading this post and registering for the promotion all for naught. Sorry.
If you score lifetime Silver through this promotion, would you please let us know in the Comments section below? We’re genuinely interested!

Tried P1, P2, P3. None were eligible
Denied! ♀️
0 for 3. “Whoops! You are not eligible to participate in this promotion. Please check out our other great offers on the My Promotions page”.
Same here.
Whoops! Not eligible for this promotion, what a bummer 😉
Well, as long as I am healthy enough I will be at least Silver by flying. And in maybe less than 20 years I may be a Million Miler. Woohoo 😉
Thanks for a confusing blog with no value
What’s so confusing, Gary?
0 for 5
#noteligible
I tried registering 4 non-million milers and 1 million miler. All 5 times it came back with you are not eligible for this promotion.
Not eligible when I tried 3 of our 6 members.
I’m one of those Flying Colonels (with the plaque to prove it). We used to receive an annual FC card that enabled entrance into the Crown Room. The last card I received was in the early 90’s. Today, it is just a conversation piece and it is nice sharing the history with some of the folks who answer the Diamond Medallion line.
Thanks, colonel! 🙂
My former (now retired) manager was a Flying Colonel and had his plaque proudly displayed in his office. As you mentioned, this was more like a Delta 360 thing, so annual Silver Medallion would be a pittance if not an outright insult. Most of those guys were probably Million+ Milers anyway. Flying Colonel included some lifetime benefits (like Crown Room Club membership) which they eventually clawed back and may explain why DL is so cautious about using the word “lifetime” with their perq offerings.
Tried all 4 players and none were eligible.
No go. 🙁
My father was a Flying Colonel and they DID approve him for lifetime Silver!
Through the link in the post?
Correct!
I’ve been a Flying Colonel since the late 80’s. Although I’m now retired and only travel periodically, I still fly almost exclusively on Delta. In late 2021, I received an email from Delta inviting me to lifetime Silver Medallion status. After completing the claim link, I’ve enjoyed the benefits of being the Silver Medallion status ever since.
I am a Million Miler and lifetime Silver and because of the tiers above Silver Tier, the best advantage you receive is the luggage tags.
Don’t forget the Main Cabin 1 boarding and Sky Priority line for check-in 🙂
Hubby is a two million miler but he’s so sick of flying we just drive. But, you can do that when you’re retired!
The link worked, but I didn’t qualify.
Got a “Whoops” too…but the Colonel part did make me hungry for fried chicken…
Is that a good thing?
Side note: one of the street vendors near my home just started serving fried chicken and waffles. I may have to stop by sometime soon.
Silver would be ok. Select better seats at booking and free luggage. However, my husband is just short of 3 million miles on Delta and was given Lifetime Gold at 2 million. Delta doesn’t acknowledge 3 million, so nothing more to strive for.
@Chris Do you have more info on MM annual Silver status? I was Diamond last year, but that’s not likely to happen again, & I’ve dropped to Silver now. Other than being a MM once are there other qualifications/requirements (annual spend on DL/Amex?, minimum annual flying/mileage earning?, minimum annual MQS/MQD/MQM?)?
@Rick – If you are a MM you do not have to fly or spend anything to keep the “free” yearly Silver status (unless they change things).
No go 🙁
Only benefit of Million Miler is exit row. Only time I fly Delta now is international as I switched my loyalty to Southwest. Delta should study their playbook – they have the best frequent flyer benefits (Companion Pass) and never ever pull back on their benefits.
Delta’s handling of the FC program has been a mess. It changed a lifetime relationship into a transactional (Delta says: What have you done for me lately?) exchange.
FC used to mean automatic upgrades to first and Crown Room access. FAs would recognize the PM/FC flyers on the manifest by getting meal orders first before running out of preferred entries. Today, you can’t even get get replacement luggage tags for the lifetime program and there is nothing in your record so FC is status free.
FC is a good example of Delta talking the loyalty talk, but failing to actually walk the talk.
