Are you looking for a Delta SkyMiles® American Express Card? Here are the current welcome offers and card details!

(Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Enrollment may be required for select American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.)

Since Delta and Amex refreshed the SkyMiles cobranded products last year, the cards actually have some interesting statement credit features that can be valuable to some travelers (such as the Delta Stays feature, rideshare benefits, and Resy restaurant credit).

Plus, holding four of the cards gives you enough Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQD) to earn Gold status without stepping foot on a plane. Having two of them gets you Silver Medallion status.

On the flip side, SkyMiles awards tickets — especially on long-haul overseas trips — can be ridiculously priced. As with many things in the world, beauty is in the eye of the cardholder.

With that, let’s take a look at the offers that are out there!

Delta SkyMiles® American Express Cards: What Features Do the Cards Share?

All of the below cards give members:

  • Free first checked bag for the cardholder and up to eight others on the same Delta PNR/reservation
  • Zone 5 boarding (formerly “Main Cabin 1”)
  • 20% statement credit for select purchases made onboard Delta flights (e.g., food, beverages)
  • Takeoff 15 — save 15% on eligible SkyMiles award trip redemptions

Delta Amex Personal/Consumer Cards

Keep in mind that the Delta Amex personal cards are all subject to the family rule. For example, if you’ve had the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, you’re not eligible to receive the welcome offers for the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card or Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card.

If you don’t yet have a Delta Amex, start with the Delta Gold then work your way “up.”

The family rule does not apply to the business credit cards.

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card

The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card

Earn 70,000 bonus miles after you spend $5,000 on eligible purchases on the card within six (6) months of being approved for card membership. (Terms apply.).  Learn here how to apply.

Delta Reserve Amex cardmembers may enjoy complimentary access to Delta Sky Clubs and American Express Centurion Lounges when flying Delta-marketed and operated flights. (To access Centurion Lounges, your trip must be paid with an eligible American Express card.)

Reserve Card Members receive up to 15 Visits per year to the Delta Sky Club. A “Visit” is an entry to one or more Delta Sky Clubs or usage of the Delta Sky Club “Grab and Go” feature at one or more airports for a period of up to 24 hours starting upon the first Delta Sky Club entry or Grab and Go usage, during an Eligible Card Member’s travel on a same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight. A single Visit permits using Delta Sky Club(s) in multiple airports during the 24-hour period.

Once all 15 Visits have been used, Eligible Card Members may purchase additional Delta Sky Club Visits (including Grab and Go) at a per-Visit rate of $50 per person using the Card. To earn an unlimited number of Visits each year, the total eligible purchases on the Card must equal $75,000 or more during a calendar year and each calendar year thereafter.

Receive four guest passes each year to Delta Sky Clubs. This is a nice perk if you’re traveling with people who don’t have Delta Sky Club access through their own Reserve card or the American Express Platinum cards. After that, up to two guests may be brought in for $50 per person. (Rates and fees.)

Cardholders receive $2,500 MQD toward Medallion status each year. That can be very beneficial for some people — especially since the card’s annual fee is $650. (Rates and fees.) Cardholders also earn $1 MQD for each $10 in eligible purchases.

Holding a Delta Reserve Card serves as a tie-breaker when it comes to complimentary Medallion upgrades, too.

There are also several statement credit opportunities. Cardholders can earn up to:

  • $240 each calendar year ($20 per calendar month) on eligible U.S. Resy restaurant purchases
  • $200 each calendar year on eligible Delta Stays purchases made at Delta.com
  • $10 each calendar month on eligible purchases in the U.S. with Uber, Lyft, Curb, Revel, and Alto

And cardholders receive a Companion Certificate valid for First Class, Premium Select, and Main Cabin flights to select destinations starting the second year of card membership.

Delta Reserve Amex members may earn a statement credit for your Global Entry application fee every four years or TSA PreCheck application fee every 4.5 years when paying with your Delta Reserve.

The card earns 3X on eligible purchases made with Delta Air Lines and 1X on all other eligible purchases.

The Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card

Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card
Earn 60,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 in eligible purchases on your new card within six (6) months of being approved for card membership. (Terms apply.) Learn here how to apply.

Cardholders receive $2,500 MQD toward Medallion status each year. That’s even more of a bargain than the Delta Reserve Amex, considering the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card‘s annual fee is $350. (Rates and fees.)

Cardholders can earn up to:

  • $120 each calendar year ($10 per calendar month) on eligible U.S. Resy restaurant purchases
  • $150 each calendar year on eligible Delta Stays purchases made at Delta.com
  • $10 each calendar month on eligible purchases in the U.S. with Uber, Lyft, Curb, Revel, and Alto

And cardholders receive a Companion Certificate valid for Main Cabin flights to select destinations starting the second year of card membership.

The Delta Platinum Amex is another one of the cards allowing members to earn a statement credit for your Global Entry application fee every four years or TSA PreCheck application fee every 4.5 years.

The card earns:

  • 3X on eligible purchases made with Delta Air Lines
  • 3X on purchases made directly with hotels
  • 2X at restaurants worldwide (including takeout and delivery in the United States)
  • 2X at U.S. supermarkets
  • 1X on all other eligible purchases

The Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card

Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card
Earn 50,000 bonus SkyMiles after you spend $2,000 on eligible purchases within six (6) months of being approved for card membership. (Terms apply.) Learn here how to apply.

The Delta Gold Amex is great for people who take a couple of Delta roundtrips each year, don’t care about Medallion status, and don’t give two hoots about a Companion Certificate. Why? The card has a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $150. (See Rates and Fees) That can save you a bunch of money on checked luggage. Plus, the Zone 5 boarding is nice and 20% statement credit for onboard purchases can save you some money if you want to treat yourself to a cocktail or Delta premium snack while flying.

Delta Amex Gold cardholders can also enjoy up to $100 back annually on eligible prepaid Delta Stays bookings on delta.com.

You can also earn a $200 Delta Flight Credit to use toward future travel after you spend $10,000 in eligible purchases in a year.

Points Earnings:

  • 2X on eligible purchases made with Delta Air Lines
  • 2X at U.S. Supermarkets and at restaurants worldwide, including takeout and delivery in the U.S.

Hi Chris, After reading your articles about MQDs, I took your advice in December and got a Platinum AMEX($350) to go along with my Delta Reserve card. They told me that I was not eligible for the SkyMiles boost but I did get the $2500 MQD boost on 2/1. I was $800+ MQDs short of Platinum but the article said that if I applied before the end of the year that there would be a boost for 2024 and then again in 2025. As I have not gotten three boosts, I am Gold for 2025. Was my interpretation of the article correct? Maybe I misunderstood but still $350 card fee for $2500 MQDs still is a good deal. When you get a chance, please let me know your thoughts. Thanks much.

      Hi, BJ.

When you say “They,” who exactly is that?

The Delta Amex Platinum Card’s Ts and Cs say:

MQDs will be deposited within 6 to 8 weeks after an Eligible Card Account is opened, and thereafter every subsequent year within 6 to 8 weeks after February 1 while the Eligible Card Account is open; however, if a New Eligible Card Account is opened during November or December of a Qualification Year, MQDs will be applied to the Qualification Year in which the Card is opened. MQDs earned during a Qualification Year are used to determine qualification for Medallion Status for the subsequent Medallion Year for the Basic Card Member.

Has it been a full eight weeks since you you were approved for your card? As we interpret it, that means those initial MQD should hit your account sometime in January or February and apply retroactively toward 2025 status.

Hi Chris, “They” was AMEX. I opened the card on the phone with AMEX and the card was approved on December 23rd so it isn’t quite eight weeks. I guess I have to wait another two weeks to see what happens. Thanks much for the quick response and if you don’t mind, if anything gets screwed up, I will follow up with you to hear your thoughts. Thanks again for the response and great information!

When you say SkyMiles boost, do you mean the welcome offer? (i.e., earn XX,000 SkyMiles after spending $X,000)?

Did they say anything about the $2,500 MQD boost for the 2025 Medallion year?

Their were two offers on the Platinum card when I signed up. 70,000 skymiles and 2500 MQDs. I was told by AMEX that because I was already a Reserve card holder, I was ineligible for the 70K skymiles boost but eligible for the 2500 MQD boost. I was hoping that there would be two 2500 MQD boosts. One retroactive for 2024 and another for 2025. Hope this clarifies my question. Thanks.

Here is an update, my Delta account now shows Platinum for 2025. There is an additional 2500 MQDs that show as being posted on December 31st. Your advice to get the Platinum AMEX for $350 was brilliant, thanks much. Told the wife, we need to plan a trip to use the regionals and my companion certificate for a celebration. Thanks again Chris.

Excellent! I wonder if there was a flurry of new approvals at the end of 2024 and it took a while to get caught up.

I don’t know about a flurry, but feel free to use me as an example….keep up the great work. BJH
