Delta and American Express are spiffing up four of their co-branded credit cards: giving them metal makeovers.
Existing cardholders and new applicants can all get in on the fun.
As part of the big Delta Amex refresh yesterday, each of the seven cards received new designs. But four of them now have metal options in addition to the traditional plastic:
The personal/consumer Delta Reserve and Delta Platinum products are now purple and silver, respectively, with the airline’s logo on the left-hand side.
The business flavors — the Delta Reserve Business and Delta Platinum Business are similarly designed, albeit with a couple of differences. In addition to the word “Business” emblazoned on the cards, their backgrounds feature a pattern of repeating Delta logos.
During the past several years, American Express switched from plastic to metal for three products: The Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, American Express® Gold Card.

Done! Thank you Chris!!
For those of us that don’t like metal (they are too heavy in your front pocket, and there’s nothing worse than the guy in line in front of you who likes to clank a metal card down on the counter to show that he has it) you can also request that Amex only send the original plastic version. Chase Sapphire Reserve® will do the same. If they ever stop sending plastic, I will cancel my membership
Tried this morning. Got this message.

Where does it say “Reserve” on the new Reserve card??
@Frankie – Not on the front. To be fair, the old black cards did not say Reserve on the front either. 😉
Got mine yesterday, I am not feeling the purple.
I am hoping it won’t be too long before I can leave my card at home. I already use my phone for most transactions. What they could do with a metal card is include some sort of LED/LCD technology that would automatically update the CVC and expiration date every few years, so the card could be used as long as the account is open. Maybe even do this with the account number too, so that the new card number could be updated if the account number has to be changed. They are already testing this type of technology with license plates.
I just ordered 3 for all of us. Mine says it coming by February 12. AMEX says my wife and daughter is coming by February 19, 2020.
Thank you for showing the step by step process for ordering the new cards.
Metal cards are just another thing to make the metal detectors alarm. Plastic is much easier,
I also hate metal cards. It requires more effort to securely dispose of them when they have expired.
Looks like Amex had some old purple Starwood cards left. The platinum card looks cool. I will keep the black reserve card for now.
What’s the big deal?
I just ordered replacement Reserve cards for my wife and I…not sure I love the purple, but oh well!
Received my new card last week. Note: I did not request it but it was replacing my card that was expiring.
I do NOT like the metal card. I wish I had been asked by AMEX for my preference, metal or plastic. As previously state by others it is heavy and will not be easily disposed of when it reaches it’s expiration date. I will make a mental note to request the plastic form prior to expiration of my Business card.
I was just told by an AM EX rep that I can’t get a plastic version of the reserve card. I hate this metal card…it’s so thick that I can’t charge my phone if the card is in the pocket of my iphone case. Product development/marketing didn’t think of that when they decided to make the switch to metal….UGGHHHH.
