Credit cards, mileage runs, and Rod Stewart. Yup. Just another week here at Rene’s Points. 🙂
Here’s a recap of our week!
#RenesReminders
René reminded us of some important tasks.
First, get your flu shot! Don’t let the stupid flu become a souvenir you bring home for a great trip. And don’t let it stop you from traveling in the first place.
Next, make sure all your ducks are in a row when it comes to the 2020 Medallion year!
He also gave us his review of the new Fly Delta 5.0 for Android.
Delta American Express News and Offers
Delta and Amex announced wholesale changes (including higher annual fees) to their co-branded credit cards. Read my take on the good and the bad.
The more expensive annual fees don’t kick in until January 30, 2020. So if there’s a Delta Amex you haven’t yet held, take advantage of the great limited-time offers available through October 30.
Also on the credit card front, don’t forget that Platinum Card® from American Express and American Express® Gold Card cardholders received their Uber and select food vendor credits for October!
Other Topics
We also discussed spending challenges. Don’t forget to ask your credit card company about them if you have to cancel a card!
A writer in England has a bone pick with frequent flyers…
Read about my trip to surprise my nephew at his high school football game in Idaho!
Finally, Rod Stewart, Delta, and Caesars Palace teamed up to help a wedding couple in distress.
Mileage Runs
This week, we found two monster MQD and MQM runs to Johannesburg, South Africa from:
We also spotted a couple of Delta MQM runs!
- Delta First Class Mileage Run: LAX to San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU): 12,351 MQM at 7.7 CPM!
- Philadelphia to Tokyo Haneda: 15,652 MQM
Make sure to:

Is there a way to use miles to upgrade MGD run on Virgin Atlantic wit Delta miles (or other partner miles)?
Chris, please stop [redacted] the flu shots. I would guess most of your readers are able to weigh the pros and cons (and yes there are cons to the flu shot like in recent years when the CDC literally didn’t know which flu type would be active) on their own.
