Delta’s 767-300 domestic wide body jet fleet is undergoing a makeover to the new leather to match up with the OFCMB cabin configuration. Do keep in mind the seats are the same as before, including the outdated IFE or in flight entertainment system, it is just the look that is changing. There are some new features coming to C+ or Comfort Plus seats 1MARCH2015. First the 1st class cabin.
These are undoubtedly the worst 1st class seats in the Delta fleet.
The only reason to pick it over another jet would be that jet, say a 737-800 or other older jet, had not upgraded and has no IFE (if that matters to you). In the above photo my seat mate holds up his phone to compare the screen size. Yeah it is tiny.
Personally I like row number one as you see above. There is less leg room due to the bulk head wall, but no one can recline into you. On the plus side for sleeping you get to an OK 38″ to catch some zzzz’s. For sleeping I avoid row one btw for better leg room and less noise and distractions from the galley.
When someone does recline you will have ZERO room to work on a laptop even though the seats do have power.
These are not very big seats either for a 1st class seat. Wider than coach but not by much (just over ½ an inch wider – seriously)!
1st class food is VERY often Chicken or Pasta on this bird I have found (not always). It is fine but many other options are better from the Delta food “pantry”.
Delta service is just about always very good in domestic 1st class. The IFE, while small, did work and it also has SAT TV. Power ports kept my laptop going and over all expect a nice flight. On to C+ seats next.
If nothing else, the BIG RED STRIPE does make this new section stand out from the rest of the coach seats. Again, to be clear, the seat is the same as the rest of coach, but you do get a bit more space and recline – both very nice.
Also, starting 1MARCH15 you get free drinks, snacks and IFE much like in 1st class. Free entertainment will be from Delta Studio if that works with the device you have.
For most Delta medallions it is time to start thinking about C+ as the new 1st class as fewer and fewer 1st class upgrades are going to be found due to strong efforts to sell these seats to everyone and anyone.
The last perk, that I will be SHOCKED to see enforced, is the overhead space that is to be only for these seats. I think implementation will be a nightmare.
One of the best seats, if you want max leg room and don’t mind slightly less seat width due to immovable arm rests, is the front row of C+
You can see for yourself on both sides, even with the bulkhead, how much space you get. Not bad and no one to recline into you just like row one in 1st class. With all the perks these seats will be in high demand from 1MARCH15 onward.
Then we have the “rest” of coach. Yes everyone gets IFE and SAT TV is free. Most of the rest you have to pay for. Snack are cookies or pretzels or peanuts and free sodas, juice, coffee or tea. All else you will pay for.
But as I have many times in the past talked about, row 25 and especially 26 AB & FG are just about the best seats on the jet if space matters to you. You have a TON of leg room and a tray table in the seat in front of you and another one in the armrest.
There are a few downsides to this choice. Row 25 has limited recline and is close to the bathroom.
The armrests are immovable so you get a bit less width.
Lastly you do not get all the perks of the C+ seats as already talked about so it will be a choice of space vs. perks. If you are 6’5″ this is a better choice! 🙂 – René

Great review of this bird. I agree that these are the worst 1st class seats in the fleet, but there were many flights last year when I longed for them. The center section in first is nice on long redeyes so I don’t have to be disturbed or disturb someone else when nature calls. Thanks for reviewing the economy seats too. One question is why are you doing MRs this year? Rollover MQMs should assure your status for 2016 an maybe beyond.
Nice review! I flew on this plane for the first time last week, in row 26 outbound and 25 inbound. When I saw the first class cabin, I was suddenly much less salty about my upgrade not clearing! Those seats were small and packed together! In my opinion, the worst feature of this plane is the tiny overhead bins. I have never had an issue fitting my rollaboard in any other bin, and yet could not even get it in this one sideways!
Awesome coverage of what this aircraft offers from Delta. I cannot understand why Delta does not extend the Economy Comfort (C+) benefits to Diamond Medallions if they choose the seats in the back and or the exit rows? These seats offer more room and should allow the DMs to get the free IFE or Delta studio and perhaps “refreshments” … or at least access to the full IFE available to C+.
Flying this bird next week SLC –> HNL. Hope the excitement of going to HI will make the flight go quick.
