Holiday music is playing, mileage runs are happening, people are scrambling to use Amex airline incidental credit and much more. That means less than two months left in the year!
Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s check out this past week’s happenings!
This Week
The big story on the blog this week was Delta launching its new Main Cabin international experience. I tried it out twice last weekend: first, from Salt Lake City to Paris and then from London to Atlanta.
During that weekend mileage run (BUR-SLC-CDG-LHR-ATL-BUR), I visited my favorite airport lounge. Seems this is also a favorite haunt for many Rene’s Points readers, as well!
René, our resident frequent floater, has some ideas for fixing Norwegian/NCL’s elite program.
If you’re a small business owner — or even have a side hustle like selling stuff on eBay — read why you must consider the great Ink Preferred card.
Also on the business card front, if you have a Business Platinum Card® from American Express, check your email for a survey offering a $10 gift card upon completion.
Finally, do you think Delta should create a 360-like status for major Amex spenders?
Great Amazon deals are ramping up. I was especially excited about the RAVPower portable battery I bought as a stocking stuffer. The SAUNORCH’s Universal International Travel Power Adapter with 4 USB ports was 62% off this week. Even though the sale expired, the price is still good at $19.99 plus another 15% off when you apply an instant coupon.
Finally, did you see the scary footage from inside an American Eagle plane that zipped off an icy O’Hare runway?
Mileage Runs
We found a few decent-ish mileage runs this week:
New York JFK to San Diego! 6446 MQM at 5.1 CPM in Main Cabin
San Jose (SJC) to New York JFK Delta Weeknight Elite Mileage Run: 6092 MQM at 5.1 CPM in Main Cabin

Even though most of the deals may already be gone, I appreciate the inclusion of some plausible mileage runs in the regular newsletter. If nothing else, it reminds to keep looking.
MARGINALLY RELATED QUESTION: I’ve been trying for months to book IND-LAX for late next March. The Delta fares are ridiculously high (~$900 and up) and those of the other major carriers aren’t much lower. The same is true of for travel to SoCal from most Midwest cities next spring. But when I last checked, the same IND-LAX RT in mid-December would cost about $400. (1) Is there some reason why everyone plans on going to SoCal next spring? (2) Is Delta just trying to get a hefty premium on long advance bookings? (3) Some other explanation? — Thanks.
@Glen: Spring break brings a fair amount of people out here to SoCal. Plus, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament’s west regional games are in Los Angeles March 26 & 28.
Besides LAX, look into BUR, LGB, SNA, and ONT.
Was not a huge fan of the new service on my flight yesterday from LIS to JFK. The signature drink was horrible, and it was warm. Reminded me of Tang! I had no room on my tray in Comfort Plus, first roe for my bottle of water, the terrible drink I didn’t drink, my Diet Coke, when I finally got it, and the chicken dinner. They took 90 mins to clear my tray too. They also seemed flustered with the delivery of it as well. #notafan
