Air France A321 Euro Business Class Review With Blocked Middle Seats

An Air France airplane is parked on the tarmac at an airport. The aircraft is positioned near a terminal building with various ground service vehicles and equipment nearby. The sky is cloudy, and there is a control tower visible in the background.

The above is clearly not the A321 we were on. Euro business class is a strange thing to most Americans. It is the same seat as in coach, including the limited leg room, but you have a blocked middle seat.

A person wearing a black face mask is sitting in an airplane seat, giving a thumbs-up gesture. The airplane cabin has empty seats with black leather headrests visible in the background. The person is wearing a light-colored shirt.

The few times I have had an empty middle seat in coach on domestic flights it has made a world of difference as to the comfort of the flight. I would still rather have a “real” business class seat but for shorter European flights this is what we get.

We arrived at this flight well rested after our 10+ hour Air France A350 overnight flight from Mexico City. Normally I dread connecting in CDG or Charles DeGaul on the outskirts of Paris but this time everything went smooth as silk. We even had some time before boarding to chill in the lounge (that I reviewed before) before our flight. On to lunch/dinner on our 2+ hour flight to Lisbon.

The image shows a blue menu card with a small black-and-white photo of a person. The text on the card includes: - "Chicken fillet with Breton curry, pearl barley, vegetable and butternut squash salad" - "Cantal PDO cheese, Picodon PDO cheese" - "Crunchy vanilla cream puff" Below the photo, it reads: - "FRANÇOIS ADAMSKI" - "Meilleur Ouvrier de France et Bocuse d'Or" - "BUSINESS AIRFRANCE" with the Air France logo.

As much as I gripe about Euro business class seats I am always impressed with the level of meals on short flights that are provided.

An airplane meal served on a tray, featuring a main dish of seasoned chicken with grains, squash, and vegetables. There is a side plate with a piece of bread and cheese, a small bowl with a cookie, a packet of butter, and a rolled napkin with cutlery. The tray also includes an Air France card.

After the just so-so meals on the last flight I was a bit hungry and was also trying to reset my tummy clock to Lisbon time zone. This cold dish was quite good and I ate every bite. The chicken was flavorful and the bread and cheese on the side not only paired well but made for a filling meal.

The image shows a bowl with a dessert that appears to be a crumble or cobbler, with a spoon resting inside. Next to the bowl is a small bottle of Thonon water, an empty glass, and a miniature bottle of Dobbé cognac. The items are placed on a light-colored surface, possibly a table or tray.

The dessert really was the star. Forget about finding a “crunchy vanilla cream puff” on any of your Delta flights nor a cognac to enjoy with it (see burger post above for what dessert is on Delta nowadays in 1st class). I savored each bite and sip of DOBBÉ.

Aerial view of a mountainous landscape with ridges and valleys. The terrain is partially covered by scattered clouds, casting shadows on the ground. The lighting suggests it is either early morning or late afternoon, with a warm glow over the scene.

Overall this flight was delightful and on time. The service was tops, the food was good and the views were dreamy. What else can you ask for on a short domestic European flight? – René
