I can pretty much guarantee you’ll love this promotion — if you enjoy eating, traveling, and/or shopping. (Join the club, right?)
The no-annual-fee Chase Freedom Flex®‘s bonus 5% cashback (5X[ sc name=”chase-ultimate-rewards-link-or-post” ][/sc]) categories for April -June 2024 are:
- Amazon
- Restaurants (which might be up to 7%/7X — more on that in a minute)
- Hotels (could be worth up to 9%/9X)
- Whole Foods
5% back on Amazon and at restaurants is fantastic!
You’ll earn 5% cashback (awarded as 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards®) for eligible purchases made with merchants between April 1 and June 30, 2024. A maximum of $1,500 in combined spending applies. Enrollment is open now through June 14. The bonus is also valid for people with the legacy Chase Freedom card (no longer open for new applications (All information about the Chase Freedom card was collected independently by Eye of the Flyer. It has not been reviewed by the card issuer.)
Wait: 7X Points at Restaurants?
Here’s where things get juicier.
The Chase Freedom Flex® earns a total of 3% cash back (3X Ultimate Rewards points) on restaurant purchases. (This includes takeout and most restaurant delivery services.)
Here’s how that breaks down:
- Each eligible purchase earns 1% back. But that doesn’t count toward these promotions.
- Purchases at restaurants earn an additional 2% back. That should count toward the 5% promotion.
The restaurant 2% bonus should stack with the 5% promotional bonus. Therefore, restaurant (and most restaurant delivery services) purchases should earn a total of 7% back per dollar spent.
So, 9X at Hotels?
The same principle applies here — if you reserve hotels through Chase Travel℠.
Doctor of Credit says that “…total earn should likely be (9X) points for Hotels booked via Chase Travel…”
In other words, hotels booked through Chase Travel earn 4X bonus points. Tack on the 5X quarterly bonus and we have 9X points earned per dollar.
Keep in mind that’s just for any pre-paid hotel purchases made through Chase Travel. Chase Travel is a travel agency, so you likely won’t receive elite status benefits or redeemable loyalty program points during your stay.
Purchases made directly with hotels will earn 5X. (For example, bookings through hotel websites, their apps, and room charges when you’re onsite.) You should also earn hotel program points and be eligible for elite status benefits.
Stop the Madness: Up to 13.5X Back?!
Here’s where things get even more exciting.
Three Chase cards allow members to apply Ultimate Rewards points at elevated redemption levels when booking trips through Chase Travel.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®: 1.5 cents per point
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card: 1.25 cents per point
- Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card: 1.25 cents per point
For example, if you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve® and transfer your Flex’s hotel earnings from the promotion to your Reserve card, those 9 points could be worth 13.5X ($1.35, which is fantastic) through Chase Travel. (11.25X or $1.25 per point for Sapphire Preferred and Ink Preferred cardholders.)
Dining-wise, those 7 points are worth up to 10.5X ($1.50 per point) for Sapphire Reserve cardholders when purchasing trips through Chase Travel. They’re worth up to $1.25 per point for Sapphire Preferred and Ink Preferred cardholders.
Final Approach
The Chase Freedom Flex® awards 5% cash back (or 5X points) for purchases made at Amazon, restaurants, hotels, and Whole Foods from April 1 through June 30. Enrollment is required.
A maximum of 7500 points can be earned back — but that’s pretty great for a no-annual-fee card.
