A reader sent us an email early this morning telling us he achieved Delta Platinum Medallion status for 2023. But he said Delta subtracted 125,000 MQM from his SkyMiles account instead of 75,000 MQM. We decided it was likely a Delta glitch. Hopefully a one-off.
Now we’re receiving unsolicited reports from people in Delta-related social media groups saying they, too, qualified for Platinum Medallion status — and Delta knocked 125,000 MQM out of their rollover MQM.
I called a couple of other Platinum Medallions. They haven’t even received their rollover Delta MQM.
So, is this a Delta IT glitch? Or were the pandemic MQM rollovers valid for only a certain time? (That would be a real pity if that were the case.)
Something tells me it’s the former. Remember that Delta hiked the MQD qualification numbers for three Medallion levels, effective on January 1. Did some wires (or coding) get crossed?
UPDATED: A Delta spokesperson provided us with this comment:
We did see minimal issues with isolated Diamond Medallion and Platinum Medallion account rollovers, but affected accounts have been addressed. Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQM) earned above and beyond Status tier are currently rolling over and will be complete in the first several weeks of this month. For any questions, please reach out to your designated Medallion phone line.
(FWIW, this is a big reason we suggest people take screenshots of their loyalty program balances at year’s end.)
Keep in mind that Delta advises SkyMiles members that is has until January 31 to complete the roll over process. It usually happens much sooner than that, though.
In the meantime, what’s your rollover MQM situation? Have you encountered similar glitches? Please share with us in the below Comments section.

I first experienced this same glitch, but this evening, I see that this has been corrected.
Glad to hear it!
Qualified for Diamond. Ended 2022 with 325k MQM. Now 200k MQM. Took a few days but all is good.
Just achieved Platinum and my MQM’s have yet to be posted. Thanks.
I was one of them. Fine with me, provided Delta bumps me up to Diamond. Ha. Ha. I hope everyone saved a screen shot of their Sky Miles account on December 31, 2022 before everything got wiped clean
Nothing got wiped out clean. You can check your previous year status…
I achieved platinum status last year for the first time. How do I go back to look at Decembers MQM’s to see if I’m experiencing this glitch?
Go to your SkyMiles activity and see how many miles Delta rolled over.
It says 0 rolled over
Tap it. I should open up and show you.
Hmm looking now – 124,400 MQMs to 0 – platinum for 2023 (didn’t come close enough on spend to make the 600 worth chasing.) so I’m really curious here!
Platinum here. Rollovers haven’t even arrived yet.
Platinum here and thankfully only 75k came off my MQM.
I just happened to be checking my account moments before I discovered this article. Sharing with my platinum friends.
Problem is not limited to what you describe. I made Silver back in March (rolled over about 22,500 from 2021), and I had about 37,000 MQM on December 31, 2022. Instead of just deducting 25,000 leaving me with 12,000 MQM to start the new year, they zeroed out my MQM balance completely. It now shows zero MQM.
Hit platinum last year and my balance was totally zeroed out too. Rollovers just showed back up today.
The same happened to me
No rollover, should have 125k rollover MQMs
I was already Platinum, but again reached Platinum in August of 2022. I had 134,255/125,000 when 2022 ended. Now my account is showing 0/25,000. Thankfully, I am still Platinum, but I thought 9,255 MQMs were supposed to roll over. (so far they didn’t) Any advice? I did take a screen shot on December 26th, just in case.
Isn’t Platinum 75,000 MQM’s? Shouldn’t you have approximately 34k MQM’s?
I had 154,871 MQM on 12/31/22; only qualified for platinum for 2023 so they should’ve taken 75,000 MQM‘s. They wiped out every MQM and I now have a zero balance.
Platinum is 75K. On their website it does say it can take up until end of January for roll over MQMs to reappear.
Platinum Medallion for +14 years and upon checking, I , too, had 125,000 miles deducted. Another data point, although, previously, when I would charge on an AMEX Delta Co-Brand credit card(s), I would see the “MQD” bar(& $) indicate that spend before the end of the billing cycle, sometimes within 24 hours. I had charged $16,000+ on January 1st and the “MQD” bar hasn’t moved as well, indicating zero. I had to call AMEX as well to get my 10,000 bonus “MQM’s for last spend >$30k on the Reserve card.
I made Diamond and had 125K deducted as expected. The remaining ones showed up on the 2nd or 3rd of January.
Curious how long it takes to iron out. Was Diamond now Plat for 2023
300k rollover mqm now I have 0
Wow.
Delta just corrected my account
They returned 50K MQMs deducted in error as I officially only made it to Platinum for 2023
I had 72, 576 roll over which is correct. I only made Diamond last year and this year because of the pandemic roll over. All is good with me. Generally only ever make Platinum due to only flying East of the Mississippi most of the time.
I spent over $250,000 on Amex Delta Reserve cards and still showing Platinum for 2023. Not sure how to resolve that. Initially they took 125,000 MQMs but returned 50,000. I should be Diamond based on the spend
I had 159K at year end and made Platinum with CC spend but no rollover at all! MQMs went to 0. I hope it’s a glitch and not a new policy. I can understand them not rolling over MQMs that have already been rolled over but it seems that they should at least rollover MQMs from my 2022 flights.
Im still sitting pretty platinum but no rollovers posted yet
@Bridget
Thank you. I believe you’re correct. Since I’m Platinum they should be subtracting only 75,000 MQMs, leaving me with 59,255 to start 2023.
@anyone
Should I contact Delta or wait longer to see if they correct it themselves?
I too haven’t received my roll over MQMs. I had nearly 13,000 that should have.
125K for Platinum. I will wait for a few days and then call them if it’s not corrected.
You guys realize that this happens every year and it works itself out without us having to do anything. Right? This isn’t news, it’s just part of their process. Stop wasting time and ruffling feathers just to generate a useless article.
I’ve never heard of Delta erroneously docking so many people 50k MQM.
And if you’re such a Delta apologist (or employee), tell them to get their stuff fixed if it happens every year.
You could’ve stopped at the headline since it’s a waste I’d time?
If it’s “a waste I’d time,” why even bother reading or trolling?
No rollover whatsoever and should have had substantial rollover. Haven’t contacted them yet. Delta stranded me in Atlanta tonight.
I’ll wait, as well, and hopefully things shake out. Made Gold and 5k miles shy of Platinum. Right now my account says I’m Gold but I’m working towards Silver on miles and $?
They only took 75,000 from me for my Plat status so it all worked correctly
This happens every year. It takes a few days for the system to do the rollover. There’s nothing to see here.
Delta erroneously deducts an extra 50k MQM from people’s accounts every year?
My platinum rollover is correct.
Patience is a virtue. Glitches and account updates from credit cards and partners are likely why status resets January 31 not on the calendar year.
For data points, I’m a Diamond and my lines only reference the earnings from trips this week, no rollover numbers yet.
Mine was corrected this morning. First time I haven’t been Diamond since they created diamond. Bummer.
FYI
Saw the post this morning about some platinums being charged 125K miles and checked my account. My roll over MQM’s just posted and I was only charged the correct 75K miles.
It’s being updated. I qualified for Platinum but had 143K MQMs (couldn’t hit the spend limit for Diamond). Last night I was showing zero, this morning I’m showing 73K. I say just be patient.
Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences with the rollover MQMs.
I, too, just checked my account (again) this morning, and finally Delta DID correctly update it. I now have the proper 59,255 MQMs back in my account!
Do mqm roll over multiple years if not used? I had 98k mqm, but only got silver for 2023. Yet all my mqm were wiped out. Reading the terms for rollover mqm, it is not clear that “unused” mqm roll over each year. I’d also note that Delta states that mqm rollovers will be shown in accounts by Jan 31 each year. So may be short term thing.
As long as you meet at least Silver status, yes.
Yesterday rollover balance was 80k which was corrected overnight to 130k rollover MQMs.
It’s a shame… I’d rather they have given me diamond as I too have had it for over a decade and am going through withdrawals.
I am gold and 50,000 MQM’s came off
Earned Silver in 2022. Should have 20k+ MQM rolllover but still showing 0 MQMs rolled over. Followed the suggestion of screenshooting status on 12/31.
Will deal with this if its not resolved in a few days.
I am Gold and all of my MQDs, gone!
I was charged 125,000 for Platimun. No correction yet.
I still haven’t gotten my MQM rollover…. Not sure why
I was charged the 125,000 for platinum, chatted with an agent and they said it would be corrected by Feb. I noticed today it is fixed!
Same here on Silver status. Went to 0, no rollover MQMs on Jan 1st. When I asked a Delta rep through chat, I was told, rollover MQMs will show up by end of the month.
I am Diamond for 2023. Had mine 177k rollover accurately but its showing 0 earned for 2024. Shouldn’t have the rollover start qulifieng for 2024?
What exactly does it show?
It shows 187k/25k miles 0 to silver
I had 162K miles at the end of 2022 and re-qualified for Platinum, but didn’t hit the spend goal for Diamond. Ended up with 87K rollover MQMs, I waited until after January 1, 2023 to claim my 2nd 15K MQM boost from my Delta Amex Reserve card from 2022. My Skymiles Activity Summary now shows 177K MQMs which reflects the additional 15K, but my 2023 Skymiles account is still showing the old 87K total instead of the correct 102K MQMs that it should. Hopefully it corrects itself soon.
Please let us know what happens!
My AMEX spend waiver bumped me to Gold Dec 28th for 2023. Bonus MQMS applied but medallion status not updated. Called DELTA and received no help ..agent just advised it’s still processing. One week with no change.
My 15K MQMs from my Delta Amex Reserve 2022 spend boost finally posted today properly to my account giving me 102K rollover MQMs to start the year out.
Platinum, correct amount taken out. Everything correct.
My current 2023 MQM rollover balance = end of year 2022 MQM balance – 75,000
No issues with my account!
Mine posted incorrectly but 1 day later the 50,000 MQMs had been put back. It took less that 24 hours and no, I did not call.
Made platinum 75,000 deducted and the rest rolled over. Happy no issues for me.
I have a completely different problem that I’ve been fighting for 6 weeks now. On one of my final flights of the year, I paid a few hundred dollars for a seat upgrade to 1st class to push me across the spend value. The incoming flight was re-routed to denver, then back to salt lake 6 hours late, so I obviously missed that flight. However, there was still availability, so put me in 1st class on the new flight later that evening, and then only credited my skymiles the $275 main cabin fee for that leg. I’ve been asking them since early December where the “upgrade” fees are, and why they weren’t credited to my account. So now, I’ve given Delta the money to achieve Diamond, but I’m still only platinum for 2023.
This is a different subject, but:
What’s Going On With Delta???
Today, in the mail, I received my Delta SkyMiles Reserve card statement. Towards the end of the statement, there is a page entitled “important notices” on which it stated: “Effective February 2, 2023, Delta SkyMiles Reserve Basic and Additional Card Members traveling in a same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight may bring up to two guests to the Delta Sky Club at a per-visit rate of $50 per person (previously $39), per location.”
Today, in the mail, my husband received an upgrade offer from Delta. He currently has the Delta Amex Gold card. The offer was for him to update to Delta Amex Platinum, and receive 30,000 bonus miles. One of the benefits listed was: “…Card members may also bring up to two guests or immediate family (spouse or domestic partner and children under 21 years of age) at the exclusive per-visit rate of $39 per person, per location.”
So Delta Reserve card holders pay $50 but Delta Platinum card holders pay $39???
What is going on?
Some of the marketing verbiage probably hasn’t been updated.
I rolled over all my MQMs over my platinum level. I have now 59,499 MQMs after rollover was posted. This is correct and I feel certain people will get theirs corrected, be patient.
Btw, anyone knows when they will be mailing the bag tags for 2023?
I really do hope @delta stops all the pandemic handouts. It’s time to let people earn their miles like I do, by flying!!! Covid can’t be a 10 year crutch! It’s time to clear out the lounge and shorten the upgrade standby list! I’m Diamond because I fly. Thats how it should be!!!
I haven’t seen the 1000 mqd for diamonds in 23 yet
That starts next month, I believe.
