We’re not even two full weeks into 2022 and already Delta Air Lines just proactively extended unused eCredits through December 31, 2023!
Delta Extends Existing eCredits Through 2023
“Effective Jan. 12, all existing eCredit holders will have an additional year of flexibility for rebooking and traveling,” Delta said in an announcement released Wednesday afternoon. “Customers will be able to rebook their ticket by December 31, 2023, for travel throughout 2024.”
So, really, you have a total of three years from now to full use your eCredits. (Rebook by year-end 2023; travel during 2022, 2023, or 2024)
Your eCredits might not reflect the 2023 expiration date. I logged in to the Fly Delta app. My long list of eCredits still reflects the expiration date of December 31, 2022. So what gives?
“Don’t worry if you aren’t seeing the new expiration date on your eCredit documents,” Delta said, “(it) will take us some time to update our system, but rest assured you can continue to book tickets for travel anytime in 2022 or 2023 with your existing eCredits.”
(I hope they do the same with Companion Certificates. I have a bunch of those burning a hole in my pocket. But some of those have already been extended twice.)
“Delta Vacations customers with existing vouchers or upcoming vacation travel plans will also receive a travel credit extension of one year,” the announcement added. “Customers will receive additional details in subsequent communications.”
Thank You, Delta!
Delta: well done and thank you! I know of people already canceling trips because of COVID-related issues. Delta extending eCredits through 2023 is certainly a very customer-friendly move.
(Before you ask: no, we don’t know if they’ll extend status and rollover MQM again this year. At this point, I doubt they will.)

OMG… I amassed over $6700 ecredits between 4 of us in the family from taking advantage of various Amex delta offers and airline fee credits from multiple amex cards I have over the years… and last few weeks, I’ve been stressing over how I am going to use all that credits in next 12 month. This is a huge relief!
I started sweating on your behalf even while figuring that your comment would have a happy ending! Congrats!
Not quite to the end of 2024. On 12/31/23 you can book a flight 330 days later so +/- to the end of November 2024.
Interesting catch. Delta said, “Customers will be able to rebook their ticket by December 31, 2023, for travel throughout 2024.” So that part’s on them. But unless some serious stuff comes up during the next 23 months (let’s hope it doesn’t), I think all of us will cash in our eCredits by then.
This extension makes me happy. I am grateful that Delta also announced extensions for Delta Vacations. I still have $5,000 in credit from a vacation that I cancelled in early 2020. Great communication from Delta to remember to announce the extension for Delta Vacations.
Right? I thought it was a very positive and informative announcement.
FYI, “eCredits” that you earn from Amex spending are not actually considered Delta eCredits by Delta, even though they are called that in the Delta App. Mine weren’t extended and when I contacted Delta Customer Care they said that they couldn’t extended them and also wouldn’t issue replacement credit for them. If yours haven’t already expired, don’t trust the 12/31/23 extension and make sure to use them!
