Restaurants and stores at New York’s three major airports are reportedly facing an internal audit — after someone tweeted an image of a LaGuardia bar charging nearly $30 for a glass of Sam Adams beer.
Plus, Delta apparently won’t require its passengers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 (at least not yet). Ed Bastian explained why.
Those are some of the day’s travel stories I thought you, too, may find interesting.
Not a Hoppy Camper: Traveler Posts Image of LGA Bar’s Beer Menu
Twitter user Cooper Lund posted this picture of a beer menu inside a LaGuardia airport bar:

That’s right. $27.85 for a 23 ounces glass of Sam Adams Summer Ale Draught. (For reference: Total Wine sells a case of 12 cans for about $17.)
Mr. Lund’s tweet caught the attention of The City (“a nonprofit, nonpartisan, digital news platform dedicated to hard-hitting reporting that serves the people of New York.”)
Their Jose Martinez and Aria Velasquez write:
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently asked for the audit after OTG — which runs restaurants and stores at LaGuardia, Kennedy and Newark airports — was flagged on Twitter by travelers outraged over a $27.85 Sam Adams Summer Ale and a $10.90 order of fries.
A spokesman told The City that the prices were “incorrectly posted” and “quickly corrected.” He also blamed them on “posted-pricing hiccups.” (It’s tough to get hiccups unless you’re able to afford the beer…)
A shop owner near JFK told Mr. Martinez and Ms. Velasquez, “We sometimes get people who stop by on the way to JFK and get stuff here…They say it’s too expensive.”
Maybe Dr. Rick should rethink his no-outside-snacks mandate. 🙂
Delta CEO: COVID-19 Vaccines Won’t Be Required for Domestic Travel
Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said the airline won’t require COVID-19 vaccines for domestic travel. Why?
He told CNBC that “It’s very difficult for us to come in and mandate a vaccine that isn’t even federally approved yet, the authorization hasn’t been final yet, so stay tuned.”

Aw! One nice thing about trolls: they’re loyal readers who can’t quit reading the blog.
Another nice thing about trolls: they’re often right
Yet you still read a blog you seem to think is frequently wrong…
Shouting “troll” is much easier than acknowledging one’s actions.
As I wrote in the post and a follow-up: the credit had been offered on arrival days during past stays. So I’m not sure what “actions” of mine were offensive. But if you want it to keep bothering you, that’s totally up to you. 😉
On July 6 we were flying home from LGA to FLL. 4 of us got 1 drink each at the bar and the tab with tip was $120.00
I took everyone to the DL Sky Club after that and paid the $39 each for our Sister In Law and her husband which I should have done in the first place.
The prices charged by the bar are/were clearly outrageous, but what’s interesting is that there must have been travelers who paid (through the nose) anyway. Which could be an interesting little study in economics (and monopoly pricing) by itself.
OTG ruined the dining experience at Newark. Everything is digital and there is no true servers that take orders and make sure everything is right. Hospitality has been taken out of hospitality. People local to NYC/NJ should be embarrassed about what out of town travelers have to deal with. Newark should RFP the business and bring in a company that can run bars and restaurants that people look forward to going to before their long flights. Not sure when the OTG contract runs out but I would give them the boot as soon as possible!
