We found an MQD run for Los Angeles travelers (or passengers who can position to LAX) to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic!
UPDATE – 5:30 PM PDT Thursday, August 28: We also see availability for January, February, and March 2020 if you want to get a headstart on your 2021 status!
(Readers in other cities, stay tuned today. Similar deals are available from some other airports. We’re working on those posts now.)
The trips are currently priced at $640 and in Aeromexico business class. Most itineraries include at least one leg on 787 Dreamliner (remember Rene reviewed 787-8 and 787-9).
Most of the itineraries can be completed in a couple of days. Or you can hang out in the Dominican Republic for a bit, if you’d like! The fares are open pretty all of September, October, and part of December!
The trip is estimated to travel 6,942 miles. So because of how Delta awards partner travel when you credit it to your SkyMiles account, this trip will earn you:
- $2276 MQD
- 10,900 MQM (@ 5.9 CPM — for business class, which is pretty darn good)
- 13,884 base SkyMiles (plus medallion bonus: Diamond + 120%; Platinum + 80%; Gold + 60%; Silver + 40%)
As usual, these are Y-UP fares. There have been, in the past, some issues with getting correct credit with Y-UPs from AeroMexico. All data points suggest this problem has been fixed — but be sure to save all your boarding passes and follow these steps to make sure you get correct credit!
Here’s a sample itinerary:
I didn’t check every single day’s itineraries (there are hundreds of combinations during the deal’s active period) — but most require an overnight in Mexico City. (There are other options with overnights in Monterrey, as well)
You may consider staying at the Hilton Mexico City Airport, which is at Terminal 1. (You can help support the blog by booking with our Hilton link that offers breakfast and hotel credit for properties in Mexico — thank you!) Hilton also is available through Be Frugal and Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates).
This (and most Aeromexico) run goes through Mexico City, which has a Centurion Lounge (read Rene’s review). So if you don’t yet have a Platinum Card® from American Express (learn how to apply) or Business Platinum Card® from American Express (learn how to apply) to get you into the Centurion Lounge, now would be a great time to consider applying.
Availability
There are a ton of dates available in September and October. There’s nothing in November but the deal comes back in December.
The deal is available on Google Flights and Aeromexico.com.

Keep in mind these dates fall within hurricane season. Protect yourself with a travel insurance plan from Travelex or Allianz.
While we all love earning 5X on purchases made directly with airlines when paying with the Platinum Card® from American Express (learn how to apply), consider using one of these cards that come with Chase’s travel interruption coverage:
Ink Business Preferred Card (3x on travel, up to $150,000 in combined purchases each anniversary year)
Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card (3x on travel, $300 annual travel credit and Priority Pass membership)
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card Card (2x on travel)

Thanks for the tip. Using the travel app, you can actually go there and back without spending a night in MEX. Granted it makes for a very long 24 hours, but given you get lounge access, that will help.
@Sandy: Thanks! Which travel app? Aeromexico’s?
Thanks for posting these… my wife and I are “running” to Lima in January!
@Jim: Our pleasure! Enjoy your trip!
Chris,
I used the ITA matrix site. I found i can get there and back in 24 hours, no hotel stay required. Price was 640.
Thanks again for the heads up on this mileage run.
