That is a LONG way away!

The above is the 100 kilometers distance between Tarragona, Spain and Barcelona, Spain. This mattered a lot to me because of the following notice I got from NCL.

a close up of a message
Really NCL? Really?

Err, yikes! Oh and the fact that I had already booked Avios award tickets on British Air in business class from BCN airport up to Gothenburg, Sweden and now all space was gone if I wanted to change to a later flight to make up for the change in ports.

My wife is FREE!

Thankfully, last year, I was smart enough to take a step I have meant to take for a very long time, that is, get a yearly travel insurance policy. It is so cool because the All Trip Premier plan covers everything I have booked for the year as well as things I have yet to book for just $450 per year. It covers just about all travel and even my scuba diving (no need for expensive DAN insurance anymore) as long as I stay above 120 feet and dive with a divemaster (I always do). Oh, and I can add my wife for FREE onto my plan (covers her when with me or traveling alone)!

So when I got the above notice from NCL, months before the sailing, I called up Allianz and asked them if I was covered for this port / schedule change issue. They said 100% yes. Just keep the receipts and, once I was back home, submit the receipts online and I would get paid back for the costs (up to the cost of my coverage that is $2,000 a year). So I booked for myself a pickup with WelcomePickups at a set time so I would have no stress about making my flight.

Check in a week? Sweet.

Submitting the forms online was painless and in less than a week I had a check for the full amount I paid for the transfer. I guess the only thing not perfect is the fact they use Wells Fargo as their bank. 😉

Bottom line is that I am so happy I made the call to carry this blanket yearly travel insurance that gives me the peace of mind not to stress out if things go sideways during any of my frequent travel adventures year after year! – René

Oh I pity those fools who had to pay $211 out of their own pocket!

wouldn’t this be a covered occurrence under CSR coverage?

@colleen – Not sure if CSR covers cruise changes like this.

hm…. If you have multiple coverages, could you double dip? Not saying you should.

I have spent many times this amount for cruise insurance before. When you fix the link I’d like to buy it through your link (so you get whatever credit is possible). Please either post it or PM me. I have enjoyed your blog for years (but my first responsive comment).

@Patrick – I have found yearly blanket protection much better. Thanks for the support and first comment. We are working with our provider for a working link again. Thanks – Rene

With ALL of your travel, is a yearly max reimbursement limit of $2000 enough for both you & your wife? I’d love to get blanket travel insurance, but am not sure if the rates & coverage limits would work for me.

They have larger coverage for more money. But even $2000 back for $500 fee is not a bad deal. Plus the other coverage is priceless.
