Delta Air Lines A220-300 Comfort Review – How Much Better than Coach or First Class?

Delta’s Airbus A220-300 offers one of the airline’s most comfortable narrowbody experiences. But is Comfort worth paying extra for over Main Cabin?

    • Final Thoughts on my 15 day Atlantic Crossing on the Norwegian Viva Prima Class Ship

Normally, I hate the last flights home after an amazing cruise vacation. I mean, I already suffer from PCDS (Post-Cruise Depression Syndrome) and the only thing that fixes that is getting on another ship. But this time I was going to be on an A220 in coach for the first time so I was somewhat excited especially after Delta gave me a 98″ big screen TV the day before for giving up my seat.

But that excitement waned as the day went on, and it was more and more looking like I was going to miss my connection in Minneapolis (MSP) to South Bend, Indiana (SBN). I will share the results of that in a bit but first the review.

We were in the front row of Comfort Plus — I mean, Delta Comfort — that, while a bit narrower, gives you some nice perks over the rest of the C+ section. (Or did Delta downgrade itself from C+ to just a C?) The biggest being a ton of leg room, so even if you put a bag under the seat in front of you, you still do not feel cramped at all.

Unlike first class and the rest of the jet, you do not have a monitor in the seat in front of you. You have to swing it up.

This does reduce the width of the seats a bit so if that matters to you more than leg room it is something to consider when picking what seats you want in C+. For me it is always about leg room and this was impressive as you even get more than the rather tight spacing in first class.

Everything worked fine from the TV screens to the tray tables and the service was what I have come to expect from Delta mainline operations – solid, good and pleasant flight attendants. Drinks are still free in C+ (adult drinks, that is).

Overall it was a very pleasant ride and did make the somewhat longish Dallas to Minneapolis trip better. I’m still no fan of C+ as any kind of real upgrade but this first row is the best. I would default next to the exit row as my pick for the best A220 coach seat. Lastly I promised to share what happened with the delay. We arrived at nearly midnight and my ride to South Bend, even though also delayed, was well on the way when we landed. We chose to use my Allianz travel insurance to pay for a stay at the InterContinental Minneapolis – St. Paul Airport and were 100% reimbursed under the travel delay part of the policy.

The next day was another mess with broken Delta jets and many delays but we finally made it home very late that evening. Next up my recap of this simply amazing adventure on the Norwegian Viva! – René
