…well, a 98″ but who’s counting. Here is how I got it! 🙂
This was just an amazing way to end what was just an epic crossing on Norwegian. After a long-ish (and rather expensive) Uber from the port of Houston, Texas, to IAH (George Bush Intercontinental Airport), we made our way to the Centurion Lounge. It seemed like our flight was very full, so we went to the gate early because I love Delta paying me to fly their airline.
We were booked on an A220 in coach. I was looking forward to that experience because I have flown in the front a few times in the Premium Economy seat, err, First Class. Lo and behold they were oversold, conveniently by two, and we were offered $500 each to take a flight the next day. – Yes, please!
Delta now sends you a link where you can choose from a number of hotels when they overnight you, and I picked a Hilton property since Delta didn’t provide meal vouchers for this bump. We used our Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card that allows us to earn up to $50 in statement credits each quarter (up to $200 annually) for purchases made directly with Hilton portfolio properties on our card (Terms apply and enrollment is required). We paid for the meal in their restaurant. It did, as expected, trigger the credit.
As for the $500 bump vouchers, Delta sends you a link where you can pick from all kinds of gift cards like:
A digital Visa, Mastercard, or American Express card. If you have bills to pay or whatever, these can be a very nice choice, and in past testing, I was able to add them to my digital wallet and spend them at registers that take Google or Samsung Pay, etc. But that is not what I chose this time.
I picked Amazon gift cards and loaded the $1,000 into my account. Thankfully, my favorite TV maker, Hisense, had a sweet 98″ TV on sale over the holidays for $999! I could not click “BUY NOW” fast enough, and I am absolutely in love with the TV.
It was looking like the next day we were going to have yet another opportunity to bump, but weather in the NYC area, where our bird was inbound from, derailed that chance. We ended up, after a very long delay, departing from Houston on the A220. More on that flight and an overnight in Minneapolis next time. – René
