Delta Air Lines announced a flash sale Wednesday for several destinations — and some prices are insanely low.
Roundtrips to Mexico and the Caribbean start at 12,000 SkyMiles. Roundtrips to Asia and the Pacific start at 50,000 SkyMiles. Please note that Delta Air Lines SkyMiles no longer awards Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM) or Medallion Qualification Segments (MQS). Some of the offers in this post may be expired. This post remains published for reference and historical purposes. (Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Enrollment may be required for select American Express benefits and offers. But those prices are without TakeOff 15 — the 15% discount certain Delta SkyMiles American Express cardholders enjoy.
We punched around a little and found some deals to Tokyo Haneda (HND) for about 71,000 from Los Angeles (LAX) before spotting this beauty: roundtrips from LAX to Sydney, Australia (SYD) for 42,500 SkyMiles after the TakeOff 15 discount! (Taxes and fees apply. But these are still awesome prices.)
The Sydney trip was around 68,000 roundtrip from New York-JFK and Atlanta (ATL).
From our research, travel dates appear to be available from September into early to mid-December.
Some people are posting their lucky finds on this Reddit thread.
Keep in mind that Diamond Medallions Global Upgrade Certificates (GUC) can be redeemed on these flights if space is available. Plus, because Delta award travel on Delta-marketed and -operated flights earn MQM (and MQD and MQS), these could turn into amazing mileage runs (if you’re cool with Main Cabin or have GUC to use).
Per an email sent to SkyMiles members, it seems the sale runs through Friday afternoon.

Looks like there’s much more availability than just Sep to Mid-Dec. Just booked JFK to SYD for 68k SkyMiles (with the take 10% off deal) in mid-Jan. Availability was wide open starting the second week of Jan through Feb (that’s as far as I looked).
