[Updated with Comment from Delta] Some Delta Platinums Have Been Charged 125,000 MQM Instead of 75,000 MQM

A reader sent us an email early this morning telling us he achieved Delta Platinum Medallion status for 2023. But he said Delta subtracted 125,000 MQM from his SkyMiles account instead of 75,000 MQM. We decided it was likely a Delta glitch. Hopefully a one-off.

Now we’re receiving unsolicited reports from people in Delta-related social media groups saying they, too, qualified for Platinum Medallion status — and Delta knocked 125,000 MQM out of their rollover MQM.

I called a couple of other Platinum Medallions. They haven’t even received their rollover Delta MQM.

So, is this a Delta IT glitch? Or were the pandemic MQM rollovers valid for only a certain time? (That would be a real pity if that were the case.)

Something tells me it’s the former. Remember that Delta hiked the MQD qualification numbers for three Medallion levels, effective on January 1. Did some wires (or coding) get crossed?

UPDATED: A Delta spokesperson provided us with this comment:

We did see minimal issues with isolated Diamond Medallion and Platinum Medallion account rollovers, but affected accounts have been addressed. Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQM) earned above and beyond Status tier are currently rolling over and will be complete in the first several weeks of this month. For any questions, please reach out to your designated Medallion phone line.

(FWIW, this is a big reason we suggest people take screenshots of their loyalty program balances at year’s end.)

Keep in mind that Delta advises SkyMiles members that is has until January 31 to complete the roll over process. It usually happens much sooner than that, though.

In the meantime, what’s your rollover MQM situation? Have you encountered similar glitches? Please share with us in the below Comments section.

Problem is not limited to what you describe. I made Silver back in March (rolled over about 22,500 from 2021), and I had about 37,000 MQM on December 31, 2022. Instead of just deducting 25,000 leaving me with 12,000 MQM to start the new year, they zeroed out my MQM balance completely. It now shows zero MQM.

I was already Platinum, but again reached Platinum in August of 2022. I had 134,255/125,000 when 2022 ended. Now my account is showing 0/25,000. Thankfully, I am still Platinum, but I thought 9,255 MQMs were supposed to roll over. (so far they didn’t) Any advice? I did take a screen shot on December 26th, just in case.

I had 154,871 MQM on 12/31/22; only qualified for platinum for 2023 so they should’ve taken 75,000 MQM‘s. They wiped out every MQM and I now have a zero balance.

Platinum Medallion for +14 years and upon checking, I , too, had 125,000 miles deducted. Another data point, although, previously, when I would charge on an AMEX Delta Co-Brand credit card(s), I would see the “MQD” bar(& $) indicate that spend before the end of the billing cycle, sometimes within 24 hours. I had charged $16,000+ on January 1st and the “MQD” bar hasn’t moved as well, indicating zero. I had to call AMEX as well to get my 10,000 bonus “MQM’s for last spend >$30k on the Reserve card.

I spent over $250,000 on Amex Delta Reserve cards and still showing Platinum for 2023. Not sure how to resolve that. Initially they took 125,000 MQMs but returned 50,000. I should be Diamond based on the spend

I had 159K at year end and made Platinum with CC spend but no rollover at all! MQMs went to 0. I hope it’s a glitch and not a new policy. I can understand them not rolling over MQMs that have already been rolled over but it seems that they should at least rollover MQMs from my 2022 flights.

Patience is a virtue. Glitches and account updates from credit cards and partners are likely why status resets January 31 not on the calendar year.

Do mqm roll over multiple years if not used? I had 98k mqm, but only got silver for 2023. Yet all my mqm were wiped out. Reading the terms for rollover mqm, it is not clear that “unused” mqm roll over each year. I’d also note that Delta states that mqm rollovers will be shown in accounts by Jan 31 each year. So may be short term thing.

I had 162K miles at the end of 2022 and re-qualified for Platinum, but didn’t hit the spend goal for Diamond. Ended up with 87K rollover MQMs, I waited until after January 1, 2023 to claim my 2nd 15K MQM boost from my Delta Amex Reserve card from 2022. My Skymiles Activity Summary now shows 177K MQMs which reflects the additional 15K, but my 2023 Skymiles account is still showing the old 87K total instead of the correct 102K MQMs that it should. Hopefully it corrects itself soon.

I have a completely different problem that I’ve been fighting for 6 weeks now. On one of my final flights of the year, I paid a few hundred dollars for a seat upgrade to 1st class to push me across the spend value. The incoming flight was re-routed to denver, then back to salt lake 6 hours late, so I obviously missed that flight. However, there was still availability, so put me in 1st class on the new flight later that evening, and then only credited my skymiles the $275 main cabin fee for that leg. I’ve been asking them since early December where the “upgrade” fees are, and why they weren’t credited to my account. So now, I’ve given Delta the money to achieve Diamond, but I’m still only platinum for 2023.

This is a different subject, but:
    What’s Going On With Delta???

Today, in the mail, I received my Delta SkyMiles Reserve card statement. Towards the end of the statement, there is a page entitled “important notices” on which it stated: “Effective February 2, 2023, Delta SkyMiles Reserve Basic and Additional Card Members traveling in a same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight may bring up to two guests to the Delta Sky Club at a per-visit rate of $50 per person (previously $39), per location.”

Today, in the mail, my husband received an upgrade offer from Delta. He currently has the Delta Amex Gold card. The offer was for him to update to Delta Amex Platinum, and receive 30,000 bonus miles. One of the benefits listed was: “…Card members may also bring up to two guests or immediate family (spouse or domestic partner and children under 21 years of age) at the exclusive per-visit rate of $39 per person, per location.”

So Delta Reserve card holders pay $50 but Delta Platinum card holders pay $39???

    What is going on?
