Delta Air Lines has told us for years that free onboard WiFi internet connections would be eoffered during the carrier’s flights.
Well, it seems those plans are starting to become reality.
TPG’s Zach Griff reports Delta Medallion members may be eligible for free onboard WiFi during select flights.
It seems elite status holders serve as guinea pigs to gauge how much capacity the free WiFi service can handle.
Mr. Griff explains Medallion members may log into DeltaWiFi.com to see if their flight offers the complimentary WiFi option.
Prices for Delta inflight internet vary depending on aircraft. I’ve seen $5 prices — regardless of flight duration — on more and more trips.
Who Will Be the Next Test Group?
I imagine the next phase will involve complimentary WiFi for Delta SkyMiles members — a great way for Delta to gain more members for its loyalty program. My guess is we’ll see free onboard internet for the Delta masses sometime in 2024.
But I also wouldn’t be at all surprised if Delta’s next beta testers were Delta co-branded American Express cardholders. That’d be yet another carrot Delta and Amex could dangle in front of people considering a Delta Amex.
Delta is apparently introducing free onboard WiFi internet service during select flights. Elite status holders are reportedly the first customers to try the product.
