Hyatt introduced a new electronic key system last month for World of Hyatt guests who use select Apple products.
No more launching a hotel’s app then searching for your virtual room key. The new feature stores your Hyatt room key in an Apple Wallet found on an iPhone and Apple Watch. It’s similar to storing a boarding pass in a virtual wallet.
Thus far, Hyatt uses the product in six of its US hotels:
- Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort
- Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa
- Hyatt House Chicago/West Loop-Fulton Market
- Hyatt House Dallas/Richardson
- Hyatt Place Fremont/Silicon Valley
- Hyatt Regency Long Beach
KTLA Channel 5 Los Angeles tech reporter Rich DeMuro recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach and tested out the Apple Wallet – Hyatt key feature. It looks pretty interesting — and even includes some protection in case you run out of battery power.
