Airline flight diversions aren’t exactly unheard of. (Weather problems, onboard medical emergencies, and rowdy passengers are generally the root causes.)

But here’s something you don’t hear often: a cruise ship was diverted late into the sailing. Why? Well, it seems there was an arrest warrant waiting for the boat in the United States.

The Crystal Symphony ended its two-week trek around the Caribbean in the Bahamas instead of Miami. It’s been reported that Genting Hong Kong Ltd., which operates the ship, owes several million dollars in unpaid fuel bills.

Oops.

Fox News reports that affected passengers are being ferried back to Miami.

Meanwhile, I hope you don’t have any Crystal cruises booked.

Two Avelo Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft -- the current entire fleet for Avelo -- are seen at Hollywood Burbank Airport in Burbank, California, (BUR), prior to Avelo's first passenger flight. The trip traveled from Hollywood Burbank Airport in Burbank, California, (BUR) to Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, California (STS) on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.

If you’re an out-of-work airline captain or first officer, Avelo Airlines might be very interested in hiring you. And they may even give you a $20,000 hiring bonus.

I’m picturing the wanted poster: Wanted, Dead or Alive, Crystal Symphony Cruise Ship, 84,000 tons, white paint. Last seen in Bahamian waters. Please deliver to Port of Miami. $1,000,000 reward!
