Thinking about taking a year-end mileage run — but don’t have anything booked?
Our friend Miles Jackson at point.me shared some insights and advice with me. Moral of the story: now is the time to get something arranged. Here’s why.
“Record Number” of Platinum Medallions Shooting for Diamond
Delta’s fantastic Status Accelerator made 2021 a great opportunity to earn bonus MQM, MQD, and MQS. There’s really never been a better time for lower-tier Medallions to pursue higher statuses.
But the promotion ends on December 31, 2021. That’s very soon. And plenty of people are scrambling.
Mr. Jackson said, “a record number of Platinums are rushing to book end-of-the-year Mileage Runs — so they can grab those MQM and MQD from custom-made trips.”
Banking MQM for 2023 (and Beyond) Status!
Even if you’re a SkyMiles member not going for Diamond (or any) Medallion status, consider that all MQM roll over into 2022. Really, we’re all getting a jump start on earning 2023 status. So if you score a good 2021 mileage run that dumps a bunch of MQM into your account, jump on it ASAP!
Flights Are Filling Up — and Prices Keep Climbing
“Reach out to us now!” Mr. Jackson emphasized. “Deals are dwindling. The planes are filling up fast. So airlines are raising fares.”
I’ve noticed that trend with a few airlines. It’s getting tougher to find good deals.
There are less than 60 days to earn bonus MQM, MQD, and MQS with the Status Accelerator. Keep in mind there are two major, travel-heavy holidays during that span. (Thanksgiving and Christmas.)
Where to Find Mileage Runs
We publish mileage runs when we find something good. But those are publicly-available trips. Mr. Jackson said, “[point.me] can create crazy routes that are ‘legal’ with the airlines, but won’t ever be displayed on an online travel agency’s booking engine.”
So don’t wait around for us to hopefully stumble across your dream mileage run! point.me‘s mileage run team makes a living creating amazing runs. Designing custom-made mileage runs is their full-time job.
Final Approach
There’s still time to earn Medallion status with mileage runs. Or just pad your MQM balance. But the window is closing every minute! Consider creating your own mileage run — or let the point.me squad do all the work for you!

Just beware of these “crazy legal itineraries” as there’s tons of IT problems between airlines, and complicated itineraries only make things worse. I’ve had to prove with a ticket number that I even had a seat on some of the flights I’ve booked this way through mileage run providers.
