Last week I posted how very disappointed, and frankly shocked, I was that AeroMexico reps told me it would be up to a year before I got credit back for my canceled flight. Remember: they canceled the flights – I didn’t.
I was exploring all my options to get my money back faster as I had already rebooked another AeroMexico flight to replace the canceled one.
A number of very helpful readers (Leo, Martin, Josh, and more) shared their experiences choosing to have Amex get involved via the chargeback option — and how well it worked for them.
I decided to try as well.
I am happy I did! In about an hour or two I had already received a response that Amex had in fact found in my favor and that I would see the credit back into my account in a few days.
The credits have posted now to my account and unless AeroMexico challenges the charge back (they should not as they have promised to pay me back) the matter is closed.
Chalk this up to one more reason I love Amex — and not just for the 5X points I receive buying my airline tickets with my Amex Platinum card!
(Editor’s Note: The Platinum Card® from American Express earns 5X on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel — up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year.)
