Business Class WEEKEND Mileage Run for Delta MQD: San Francisco (SFO) to Madrid (MAD) — Projected $6000 MQD and 22,650 MQM

We came across another AeroMexico business class mileage run to Madrid! This one originates in San Francisco. ITA Matrix pegs the run’s total travel distance at 15,022 miles. Because this is an AeroMexico “I” fare, you should receive about $6,000 MQD when crediting the trip to your Delta SkyMiles number. (Read more about Delta partner runs here.) The trip currently costs about $1726. So your MQD earnings are about 3.4X of how much you actually pay!

Plus, the Unofficial SkyMiles Calculator estimates the trip will earn you 22,658 MQM (7.6 CPMQM) and 30,208 redeemable SkyMiles (before any applicable Medallion bonuses).

I love that the run starts on a Friday afternoon and finishes around lunchtime on Sunday. Yes, it’s a pretty brutal, turn-and-burn trip. But if you can’t take off too much time from family or work, this offers you a great chance to score a ton of MQD and MQM during a weekend. (There are also some opportunities to stay at least one night if you want to explore Madrid.)

Plus, it allows you some time to position to/from SFO if you don’t live in the San Francisco area. This could be an added plus for Delta flyers in the Los Angeles area, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. Even if you have to hop on a cheap Southwest flight, you’re only an hour or two away from SFO.

Keep in mind there’s a new Hyatt at SFO.

San Francisco to Madrid AeroMexico mileage run in November 2021.

Some departure dates I see available:

  • Thursday, November 18
  • Friday, November 19
  • Thursday, November 25
  • Thursday, December 2
  • Thursday, December 9
  • Friday, December 10
  • Friday, December 17
  • Thursday, December 23
  • Friday, December 24
  • Thursday, December 30

And a few more into 2022.

Don’t Dawdle

AeroMexico sometimes yanks these deals not long after we post them. So if you want to book this run, jump on the deal. Then book your positioning flights, if necessary.

Where to Book

René likes starting at TopCashback and then booking through JustFly or Priceline. AeroMexico flights purchased through those OTA generally code as AeroMexico tickets.

Don’t pay for seats. Once you book your trip, take your AeroMexico PNR and go into AeroMexico’s website to select your seats.

Or if you’d rather have someone else take care of all the details — and monitor your itinerary for those infamous AeroMexico flight changes — ask our friends at Juicy Miles to do the heavy lifting for you.

Book mileage runs through Juicy Miles!

I’ve ben watching this path quite a bit.. except I’m originating from LAS. Too hard to get to SFO and back in time for shuttles, etc.
Note that there are some the last couple of weekends in August for $1481 from SFO with this same path saving a couple hundred more! I am booked and going the 24th of August and again in December 10th out of LAS. Churros and Chocolate meetup at San Gines, anybody? 🙂

Why are these suddenly being presented as weekend mileage runs when a return COVID-19 test is required?

@Gene – You may want to peak at the rules i.e. a test taken in the US before the flight is good for 3 days and could be used for re-entry. Beyond that, many may be booking runs early next year thinking – by then – the testing for those fully vaccinated or with a vaccine passport (like inside CLEAR soon) will not need that.

I guessed that would be the answer. If it works out, that sure makes things easy. However, it doesn’t work out, it could be a bit of a disaster. Also, I wouldn’t count on Europe being open come January. It could very well be closed again to Americans as initial vaccine immunity tapers. Plus, we have so many stupid unvaccinated people in America.

My strategy on these would be to go very soon, while Spain is open. Beyond that, I don’t know what my plan would be for that COVID test…

I call them “weekend mileage runs” because they take place during weekends…
