Miami to Santo Domingo is 848 miles as the crow flies. But for some people earning Delta Elite Medallion status, it’s about 6,384 miles — and earns $2253 MQD and 9,621 MQM while flying Aeromexico business class! 😉
As with the other SDQ runs we blogged earlier, several dates give you the option to either get right back on the plane in SDQ or stay a few days. Also like most of the others, there’s a redeye outbound. Everything I saw also has an overnight stayover in Mexico City on the return.

The trips are currently priced at $554.
The general routing is MIA-MEX-SDQ-MEX-MIA.
The trip is estimated to travel 6,384 miles. Because of how Delta awards partner travel when you credit it to your SkyMiles account, you’ll earn:
- $2553 MQD
- 9621 MQM (@ 6.5 CPM — a good Busines Class run!)
- 12,768 base SkyMiles (plus medallion bonus:Â Diamond + 120%; Platinum + 80%; Gold + 60%; Silver + 40%)
As usual, these are Y-UP fares that code as “I” tickets. There have been, in the past, some issues with getting correct credit with Y-UPs from AeroMexico. All data points suggest this problem has been fixed — but be sure to save all your boarding passes and follow these steps to make sure you get correct credit!

Yep. There’s an overnight stayover in Mexico City — even on the immediate turnaround.
Make your life easier — especially with early morning departures from MEX to MIA — and consider the Hilton Mexico City Airport, which is at Terminal 1! Hilton also is available through Be Frugal and Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates).
Lounge Access in Miami and Mexico City
As SkyTeam Elite members, Delta Air Lines Gold, Platinum, and Diamond Medallions (should…) receive complimentary access to the Delta Sky Club in MIA when traveling on a SkyTeam partner international trip (like this Aeromexico run) and may bring a guest on the same PNR.
With Priority Pass, you should also be able to access the Avianca VIP Lounge and VIP Lounge Miami. (Yes, there is an American Express Centurion Lounge — but in another terminal.)
According to Aeromexico, you should be able to enter any Aeromexico lounge, given you’re traveling business class on a SkyTeam partner airline.
Per the SkyTeam website, SkyTeam Elite passengers also receive complimentary access to the Aeromexico’s Salon Premier Nacional in Terminal M.
Also, Priority Pass members may access Salon Premier and Terraza Premier in Terminal 2.
This (and most Aeromexico) run goes through Mexico City, which has a Centurion Lounge (read Rene’s review). So if you don’t yet have a Platinum Card® from American Express (learn how to apply) or Business Platinum Card® from American Express (learn how to apply) to get you into the Centurion Lounge, now would be a great time to consider applying.

Scattered dates are available in September and October, with a handful in November and December. I also saw a few in the quarter of 2020.
This trip is bookable on Aeromexico.com — but you might get a good headstart on Google Flights, too.
