The Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card is the sweet spot for frequent-ish Delta flyers who want Medallion® progress without living on airplanes. The $2,500 MQD Headstart lands automatically every year — stack it with a second eligible card and Silver Medallion® becomes achievable off spending alone. The Companion Certificate, used for a domestic round-trip, can offset a meaningful chunk of the $350 annual fee (Rates & Fees). The 3X earning on Delta and hotels makes it a natural companion for any trip where you’re booking both. As always: SkyMiles award pricing is volatile enough that the miles are a bonus, not the business case for the card.

MQD Headstart & Boost

Headstart: Cardholders receive $2,500 Medallion® Qualification Dollars (MQD) deposited into their SkyMiles account each Qualification Year — automatically, no flying required.

Boost: Earn an additional $1 MQD for every $20 in eligible purchases on the card.

The Headstart stacks with other eligible cards. Pair this Platinum with a Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card, Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, or Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card and you can accumulate up to $10,000 MQD from card-holding alone — enough for Silver Medallion® without boarding a single flight.

Companion Certificate

Starting the second year of card membership, you’ll receive a Companion Certificate each year at renewal — valid for one round-trip Main Cabin companion ticket on Delta, Delta Connection, and Delta Shuttle flights, with the purchase of a qualifying adult fare. Government taxes and fees apply — up to $80 for domestic round-trips and up to $250 for international. The certificate can also be redeemed toward the flight portion of a Delta Vacations package (call Delta Vacations directly to book).

Global Entry / TSA PreCheck Credit

Receive a statement credit for your Global Entry (up to $120) or TSA PreCheck (up to $85) application fee every four years when charged to your card — whichever you apply for first. Enrollment required.

Complimentary Upgrades

Non-Medallion® Platinum cardholders are eligible for complimentary upgrades to Delta One (within the 50 United States), Delta First, Delta Premium Select (within the 50 United States), and Delta Comfort+ — after Medallion® members and Reserve cardholders. Delta Basic (Basic Economy) fares are not eligible. Upgrades are subject to availability and not available on all flights or markets.

Hertz Five Star Status

Complimentary Hertz Five Star status with enrollment. Add your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards account to your SkyMiles profile at delta.com/myprofile/loyalty-programs, then activate the benefit at delta.com/hertz.

Resy Credit

Earn up to $120 back per year ($10 per month) on eligible purchases at U.S. Resy restaurants. Enrollment required. Qualifying restaurants are indicated on Resy.com and the Resy app.
