The image shows a cruise ship cabin door with the number 16136, featuring a modern design with vertical lighting. Below the number, there are two small red lights and a slot, possibly for a key card. In the bottom right corner, there is an inset image of a large cruise ship named "Norwegian Viva," docked at a port. The ship has a white and blue color scheme with artistic designs on the hull.

We booked this cabin while we were onboard our crossing from last year on the NCL Escape as we were able to both confirm Vibe beach club space, including a cabana, and use cruise next certs to hold it. Until the final payment date, the price kept going down, down, down, and we at last locked it at a very decent price for a 15-day cruise.

A modern hotel room with a large bed covered in white linens and several pillows. There is a nightstand with a lamp beside the bed. The room features a large abstract painting on the wall above the bed. A flat-screen TV is mounted on the opposite wall. The room has a large window with curtains, offering a view of the ocean and a distant shoreline.

Cabin 16136 offers a modern, calming space with clean lines, soft lighting, and a highly functional layout – so much so that I have to say it is one of my favorite NCL standard balcony cabins I have ever sailed on. Floating-style bed frame (easy to store luggage underneath) and this is the first NCL ship I have not seen a dust ruffle hiding the underneath space – an interesting change for the cruise line.

A modern hotel room with a neatly made bed featuring white linens and blue accent pillows. There's a light-colored sofa with blue cushions next to the bed. A large abstract artwork is mounted on the wall above the sofa, illuminated by soft lighting. Two suitcases are placed near the entrance door. A small desk with a phone and a stool is on the left side, and shelves with glasses and a brochure are mounted on the wall. The room has a neutral color palette with a clean and organized appearance.

My first impression of this cabin is warm light, neutral, and contemporary. As you can see the color palette leans into soft beige, sand, and ocean-blue accents — maybe a subtle nod to the sea outside your balcony? Either way I loved the decor and colors. The large backlit abstract wall art behind the bed creates a warm glow that elevates the space beyond a standard cruise cabin. The recessed LED lighting gives the room a boutique hotel feel rather than an older traditional ship stateroom. Just nice.

A hotel room with a beige sofa featuring two blue cushions, a black suitcase with a pink strap standing next to it, a bedside table with a modern lamp, and part of a neatly made bed with white linens and a decorative blue pillow.

The love seat, while reasonably comfortable for two people is compact. So consider it nice for relaxing, not sprawling and while sitting and reading lengthwise my feet went past the armrest.

The image shows a bedside table with a marble top, situated between a bed and a sofa. On the table is a modern lamp with a cylindrical white shade and a metallic base. The wall behind the table has a subtle decorative pattern, and there is an electrical outlet visible on the wall.

The image shows a modern bedroom corner with a bed on the left, covered in white sheets. Next to the bed is a small bedside table with a sleek, cylindrical lamp on top. The wall behind the bed has abstract art with subtle lighting. On the right, there are floor-length curtains partially covering a window or glass door.

Storage around the bed is limited to a bank of two drawers and a small open cubby on the other side. However both lamps have USB power ports. In fact there are number of them throughout the cabin – a nice touch.

The image shows a hotel room interior with a modern design. There is a wall-mounted mirror with built-in lighting above a desk. On the desk, there is a telephone, a tissue box, and some papers. Above the desk, there are two shelves with glasses and a small sign. To the right, there is an open closet with hangers and shelves. A suitcase is partially visible in front of the closet. The room has a neutral color palette with light wood and beige tones.

A gray upholstered ottoman is placed under a wooden vanity or desk. To the right of the ottoman, a black hairdryer with a coiled cord is mounted on the side of the vanity. The floor is carpeted, and the vanity has a wood grain finish.

The image shows an open mini-fridge inside a wooden cabinet. Inside the fridge, there are two bottles of sparkling water. On top of the cabinet, there is a black office phone with a coiled cord, and next to it are two electrical outlets.

The desk area, while not huge, is practical for makeup / getting ready as well as laptop work if not for too long a stretch with no seat back for support. A tiny mini fridge is also tucked away just right of the desk. Now the storage area and closets:

The image shows an open wooden closet with several wooden and metal hangers on a rod at the top. A black backpack with a red item in its side pocket is placed on the middle shelf. Below the shelf, there are three wire mesh drawers.

A wooden closet interior with several wooden hangers on a rail at the top. Below the hangers, there is a shelf with a digital safe. Underneath the safe, there are two pull-out wire baskets.

So much above Prima class ships is unique. Open mesh slide-out shelves, as an example. They work fine, but I’m not sure what the idea is here vs. a closed basket shelf? Either way, we were impressed by the amount of storage, and our request for more hangers was quickly filled by our room steward (who was excellent, btw).

The image shows a hotel room control panel mounted on a wall. The panel has a digital display with options such as "Do Not Disturb," "Make Up Room," "Warmer," and "Quick Cool." Below the panel, there is a card slot with a hotel key card inserted, which has the Hilton Honors logo on it.

Heating and cooling is digital (compared to most other NCL ships) and now has integrated the make-up cabin / do not disturb lights outside the door. You will need either your room key, or a relocated hotel key, to keep the lights on in the cabin.

The image shows a modern bathroom with a large mirror and illuminated edges. On the left, there are shelves with folded white towels and a glass. The wall has a decorative blue and beige pattern. In the reflection of the mirror, a closet with hangers and a backpack is visible.

a bathroom with a sink and toilet

This image shows a modern shower stall with glass doors and a chrome handle. Inside, there is a rainfall showerhead and a handheld shower attachment. The walls are covered in a beige, stone-like material. There are two wall-mounted dispensers and a metal shelf for toiletries. The floor of the shower is white with a textured strip for grip.

One of the stars of this cabin is the bathroom. Not only is the design great to make the compact space “feel” large but the shower is one of the largest I have been in outside of a suite. I really, really missed this large space on my next cruise on the NCL Spirit just a month later in New Zealand.

A balcony view overlooking a large body of water. The balcony has a glass railing with a wooden top rail. There are two cushioned chairs with woven backs and a small round table between them. The water is calm, and the horizon is visible in the distance.

A cozy balcony setting with a cushioned wicker chair and a small round table. The balcony overlooks a vast body of water, providing a serene and relaxing view.

Oh, what a balcony! It felt spacious even with both my wife and me outside enjoying the space. On the 16th floor, you have a large overhang (more about that in a bit), so you are shaded most of the day if you are looking to get out of the sun for a bit, and the chairs – oh my – where have you been all my life on NCL ships! NCL needs to put these on every ship it sails. They are so comfortable and solid!

At this point, I bet you want to book this cabin, and I understand why, as this really is a fantastic space. But there is one HUGE issue. That issue is what is just above on floor 17. Take a look:

a group of people sitting on a deck of a boat

Every evening the pool guys stack up the deck chairs and strap them down for safety. Well, at 7 AM EVERY DAY, they loudly set them up again. Even with earplugs, you will hear them banging about each morning. If you are a late sleeper, you will HATE this cabin and the noise from above.

A serene ocean view at sunset, with the sun partially visible on the horizon. The sky is a gradient of blue and orange hues, scattered with small clouds. The ocean appears calm, reflecting the colors of the sunset. Part of a structure is visible in the top left corner.

While I loved being on the 16th floor, I would, if there is a next time, book one towards the aft of the ship as Vibe does not break down their loungers as on the main pool deck. Either way, the noise did not spoil my sailing as I was often up to views like the above that never ever get old. – René
