Some airline and hotel elite status holders have given the rest of us a “Do You Know Who (I Think) I Am?!” reputation for demanding special treatment. Upgrades, extra attention, free stuff, whatever. A few status holders love telling everyone which tier they hold and how you can help them.
Well, a certain American Airlines passenger seemed hopeful that AAdvantage Executive Platinum status would score her a get-out-of-jail-free card.
I love airports, I love the airline industry, and I love police crime scene videos. It was like Christmas morning when I stumbled on this video.
“…the perfect Karen…”
This incident took place in September 2023 but I heard about it only very recently. Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW) police showed up to (attempt to) de-escalate an incident between a passenger and an AA crew.
It seems the passenger, later identified as Angela Killian, had a habit of enjoying a drink or several in the Admirals Club before her flights. According to the Daily Mail:
Killian’s former co-workers explained their trip always began with a trip to the American Airlines lounge at DFW Airport to take advantage of the unlimited booze.
There she would down three tall vodka and tonics ‘at minimum’ before even getting on the plane.
The colleague said there was no way Killian only had the two ‘very full’ drinks she told police she drank before her arrest.
She displayed rather erratic behavior when police first detained her. (The passenger was later accused of assaulting several AA crew members, who later decided to press charges.) But things really went off the rails right around the time she was placed under arrest for public intoxication.
Ms. Killian launched into a tirade of verbal attacks on the officers, insulting:
- their salaries
- the sizes of certain anatomy parts
- their significant others’, um, bedroom satisfaction and insinuating that the significant others’ were cheating on their cop husbands
All of this comes as she pulls the ole airline status rank.
“I am an American Executive Platinum Person!” she screams. (We don’t know if she was an EP or just made it up. Nor do we know if she’s still welcome on American flights or in their lounges.)
It’s definitely one of the more creatively profane and filthy rants I’ve ever heard.
She then proceeds to, well, let nature take its course. After she’s placed into a police vehicle, one of the officers scurries back into the terminal and gives himself a makeshift bath out of hand sanitizer at a TSA checkpoint.
In the end, she took advantage of a plea deal and plead guilty to resisting arrest.
Police Body Cam Video (Video Discretion Advice)
There’s police body camera video of this crazy encounter. You can watch it unfold in real time-ish.
Beware that it’s very not-safe-for-work, children, or people who might be offended by foul language. Watch it alone or put some headphones on. (If you want to go right to the spot just before she starts bragging about her status, click here.)
Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Ready?
Holy smokes, right?
“She is the perfect Karen, from the haircut to the wardrobe and the behavior… She gets a 10/10,” comments user “@danmahon127.”
“@bartgomez4872” writes “It’s amazing how fast alcohol can cost you jail, your job and flying privileges, all in one day.” (She apparently lost her job, according to Daily Mail.)
Some users, though, think the police were out of line.
“Ma’ am, with all respect you should have pressed charges too,” said “@katryan889.”
“@jamesmoore4559” says, “This cop sounds like he doesn’t want to do the paper work. He talked the staff out of pressing assault charges twice.”
This woman’s behavior was abhorrent, yes. I’m related to a law enforcement officer and have friends who are cops. I view police in a rather positive light. But at least one of these LEOs seemed to lose their cool. (Then again, they were soiled upon…)
