Winter, while not “officially” here for a few more weeks, is here. We should all know what that means and it includes the hassle of winter coats. If you are in first class (if the airline you are flying on has such a cabin) the nice flight attendants who are there primarily to serve you drinks and food (no matter what they tell you about safety) should be able to hang up your coat and hopefully remember to give it back to you when you land.
What you don’t want to ever do, if you are in coach, is fill up the overheads with your coat until it is first full of bags (you can then squish it on top). If you don’t follow this rule you will likely be shamed on Reddit and rightfully so as you are a real jerk for not holding on to your coat till the bin is full of bags.
What other things should you avoid?
Bring more bags than allowed.
When I get on a cruise ship I bring bags of treats for the crew who are taking care of me. What I don’t do is bring extra bags onboard going beyond the 1 bag and 1 personal item rule taking up more of the above precious overhead space we just talked about. I know you don’t want that gift to Timmy to get broken but that means you may have to check something else or ship it separately ahead of you!
Yelling at anyone from the airline.
They may be wrong, they may be mean, they may pulling something sneaky on you, but raising your voice never ends well. First off you are being rude and even if they are rude to you does not give you the right to be rude back. Plus, especially onboard, they have the power to kick you off the flight. So be smart folks.
Put boots on the wall partition / bulkhead or your forward passengers armrest.
Can all just never do this ever again? Feet are bad enough where they don’t ever belong but with winter yuck it just makes a stupid action that much more gross.
Don’t shove your hat in the seatback pocket.
I know your head may get cold in winter but I don’t want your head bits in the seatback pocket where I put my stuff. Shove it please in your coat that is in the overhead after all the bags are in.
Don’t BYOB!
First up it is against all the airlines rules to consume your own alcohol on a jet and it never ever ends well for those doing it. No one ever wants to be on a jet that has to divert unless it is for mechanical reason or a real medical emergency and then we get it – diverting because someone is smashed from BYOB is going to make you the least liked person EVER!
That is my short list of winter do not do’s! Have I missed any? You tell me! – Rene

Rene, you’re disgusting. Flight attendants ARE primarily on board for your safety. None of your “tips” are helpful. Maybe try being a better human and speak with a little more respect.
“Maybe try being a better human and speak with a little more respect.”
You say that after calling someone “disgusting.”
Look in the mirror, honey.
@Chong – Wow I guess you are not going to get one of the literally thousands of dollars of Starbucks gift cards I handed out on flights to hard working FAs over the years!
Also, having flown millions of miles in 50+ years I have never ever needed an FA do anything for my safety – but they have served me many meals, snacks and drinks so…
Flight Attendant service in 2023 is a total joke and a crap shoot even in 1st class.
@Tom – Flying Delta the past few months I have found First Class service either outstandingly good or just so-so.
