If Delta Air Lines canceled your flight during the long stretch of the COVID-19 pandemic’s peak, you might be entitled to monetary compensation under the agreements of a class action lawsuit.
Delta Class Action Lawsuit: COVID Cancellations
First of all, the writers of this blog are not attorneys (though I worked for an actor who played one on television). This post is not legal advice. I’m merely alerting travelers who might have been affected by an airline’s actions.
Now, TopClassActions.com posts:
Delta Air Lines agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it breached its ticket contracts by refusing to refund flights that were canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The settlement benefits Delta ticket holders who received credit for a non-refundable ticket for a flight scheduled to depart between March 1, 2020, and April 30, 2021, that was later canceled by Delta, who requested a refund for the ticket but did not receive one and who had an unused or partially used credit as of Jan. 13, 2023.
Plaintiffs in the Delta class action lawsuit claim the airline should have refunded them for flights canceled due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Although passengers received ticket credits, they argue that they were owed cash refunds based on ticket agreements.
TopClassAction.com adds, “Delta hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum as part of a settlement to resolve the class action lawsuit.”
So, What Can You Get?
Class action lawsuit members may get either cash or credit.
How Much Can You Get?
Like most class action lawsuits, the amount varies.
Should You File a Claim?
If you were affected, yes. You will have to provide flight information such as a ticket number, flight dates, and stuff like that.
But don’t be cute and file a claim just for fun. As TopClassActions says:
If you do not qualify for this settlement do NOT file a claim.
Remember: you are submitting your claim under penalty of perjury. You are also harming other eligible Class Members by submitting a fraudulent claim. If you’re unsure if you qualify, please read the FAQ section of the Settlement Administrator’s website to ensure you meet all standards (Top Class Actions is not a Settlement Administrator).

The law firm handling this sent me a notification 2 weeks ago with a form to fill out and return. They included the amount owed to me and two refund options: Check or DL SkyMiles credit. I took the check option. If you do qualify for a refund they will probably get around to you.
How very odd. To my knowledge Delta offered refunds where they were required to. If they didn’t, all you had to do was ask, it wasn’t necessary to initiate a class action suit where the only winners are the lawyers.
