Delta Air Lines announced several big flight additions on Friday.*
The carrier will operate daily nonstops from both New York-Kennedy (JFK) and Detroit (DTW) to Honolulu, Hawaii! (HNL). Delta also announced a daily nonstop from Atlanta (ATL) to Maui (OGG).
Both the DTW-HNL and ATL-OGG flights debut on November 19.
The JFK to HNL line says “aloha!” on December 17.
Delta currently flies to Hawaii from Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP), ATL, and several Western US locations. (You may recall René and Lisa flew from Minneapolis to HNL and HNL to Atlanta a few years ago.)

All the flights will feature Delta One, Comfort+, and Main Cabin offerings. I imagine that Airbus A330s will operate the routes.
New Delta Hawaii Flight Times
In its announcement, Delta didn’t mention any specific flight numbers or on-sale dates. (I checked Delta.com’s booking pages and as of posting time didn’t see any flights listed.)
But Delta mentioned when the daily flights will depart and arrive:
Atlanta (ATL) to Kahului, Maui (OGG)
- Depart ATL at 11:00 AM
- Arrive OGG at 4:00 PM
Kahului, Maui (OGG) to Atlanta (ATL)
- Depart OGG at 5:25 PM
- Arrive ATL next day at 6:40 AM
Detroit (DTW) to Honolulu (HNL)
- Depart DTW at 12:15 PM
- Arrive HNL at 4:00 PM
Honolulu (HNL) to Detroit (DTW)
- Depart HNL at 5:00 PM
- Arrive DTW next day at 6:30 AM
New York-Kennedy (JFK) to Honolulu (HNL)
- Depart JFK at 9:00 AM
- Arrive HNL at 3:35 PM
Honolulu (HNL) to New York (JFK)
- Depart HNL at 4:55 PM
- Arrive JFK next day at 7:25 AM
Why the Asterisk*?
Perhaps you noticed the asterisk in this post’s headline and opening line.
The routes aren’t exactly Delta’s first DTW and JFK to Honolulu rodeos.
Delta operated seasonal service between JFK and HNL for a while. (Fellow Boarding Area blogger PMM took the trip in 2018.) The carrier announced DTW to HNL service a few years ago. René even booked himself on a flight. But that seemed to fizzle out shortly thereafter.
The difference this time around is that these flights will operate daily. And, hopefully, stick around.

This isn’t anything new. Delta announced Detroit-Honolulu back in late 2018. See here: https://news.delta.com/deltas-new-detroit-honolulu-service-means-more-ways-reach-hawaii
The flight times suck. Big time. I don’t know why you would pay the premium for Delta One for flight timings where sleeping is pretty much impossible.
@FTN Delta Diamond – Chris has in the post, just above your comment – “The carrier announced DTW to HNL service a few years ago. René even booked himself on a flight. But that seemed to fizzle out shortly thereafter.” – including the link you posted.
Beyond that, it will be interesting how long it lasts.
Hey Chris!
Looks like the ATL-OGG route has just posted… however it looks like it’s nonstop FIRST CLASS cabin instead of D1? Is this a mistake on Deltas part?
