Just past 2:00 PM on Sunday afternoon, a Cessna 172 went down near Whiteman Airport (WHP) in the northeast section of Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. The pilot survived.
Barely. And that was before the real drama.
The heavily damaged, single-engine plane came to a rest on active train tracks.
Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived on the scene just in time: a Metrolink train sped toward the downed plane — with the pilot still trapped in the wreckage.
LAPD personnel desperately worked to free the pilot. Bodycam footage caught their rescue:

How crazy is that?!
CBSN Los Angeles (via AP) identified the LAPD personnel as Officers Damien Castro, Christopher Aboyte, Robert Sherock, and Sgt. Joseph Cavestany. A KTLA 5 News report I watched said the pilot is at a hospital and expected to recover.
It’s only fitting that this seems like something out of the movies. After all, it happened not too far from Air Hollywood studios and the PanAm Experience.
