American Airlines — whose subsidiary PSA Airlines is headquartered in Dayton — donated $150,000 to El Paso and Dayton community foundations following the mass shootings this weekend in those cities.
In a statement, AA Chairman and CEO Doug Parker said, “We are saddened by the tragic events that took place this weekend in El Paso and Dayton. American has a long history of serving both communities, and we want to do our part to ensure that those who were affected by these senseless acts of violence have access to the resources they need.”
Dayton-based regional carrier PSA operates 130 CRJ aircraft.

PSA President Dion Flannery said, “All of us at PSA are deeply affected by last night’s events. Over the coming weeks, we will work with community leaders and partners to identify volunteer opportunities for our Dayton-based team members to support those in our hometown.”
A Nice, Generous Gesture By American
While American isn’t starving by any means, they did reportedly lose $400 million because of the 737 MAX groundings. Donating six figures — no matter how much they have in their coffers — is certainly a kind act.
I’ll be curious to see if any other airlines follow suit. –Chris
