It takes a lot to really impress me when it comes to travel. But when a company advertises one thing (or at least implies one thing) and then delivers something totally the opposite – that impresses me but in a bad way. Uber, for example, brags about their pre-order service.
But in truth they have no pre-order in the Uber App just as I blogged about here and even if I wanted to use them they do not service BCN. So I needed, when traveling to Barcelona, a real honest and reliable car pre-order service.
Enter GroundLink (<-LINK for $10 credit )and let me tell you I am in love. I had never tried the service before but online reviews were good.
And there was a $10 first time credit link that made it even more affordable (there are even more ways to save I will show you in a bit). But above just a cheap price – I wanted a reliable service.
When I booked I was able to insert my flight number from Amsterdam on KLM as well as my cell number. This was a big help as my flight was delayed and as soon as I landed and turned on my phone notification texts started rolling in not to worry that they were also tracking my delay and that the drive would wait up to an hour. Impressive.
As soon as we exited and had collected our luggage (that took forever – so much for sky priority bags, KLM) we found a driver in a suit and holding a sign with our name on it. He had a luggage cart and took us right down to his Mercedes Benz and took us to our hotel north of downtown (btw it was rush hour and took forever but not GroundLink’s fault and did not cost us extra).
After a few days in Barcelona we again had a car scheduled to take us right to our Epic Haven adventure. The app showed and tracked the driver and he arrived exactly on time that we had ordered the car – just impressive.
Let me tell you I will be using GroundLink each time I can. Sure I will still use Lyft and Uber now and then when it is a really good option and pre-order does not matter to me but otherwise I will always consider the GroundLink option.
Now after you have had your first discounted ride to try the service I have some tips to save you some cash. First off, I always start at TopCashBack to book the service as they pay me 6% cash back that can, with bonus, turn into even more via a Amex gift cards cash out choice (and they pay really fast fyi). Next, if you carefully look BEFORE you go to TopCashBack you will almost always find (via Google) a 10%, 15% or 20% off code to even further lower your ride price. Lastly, if you have been wise enough to get a City National card that pays you each year to hold the card (via 4 AU s and travel credits) you can stack another $30 bonus and get another 15% off if you bill the ride to that card.
Bottom line you can see the stacked savings can make GroundLink a great value and more importantly it works and is reliable and as they say “On time Every Time” matters! – Rene

So did you need to call, or was the whole thing based on their text messages? You didn’t mention needing to call, but your screenshot says you did. Thanks.
@colleen – I never called as I was not going to beyond the 1 hour time frame. However, I did get a text from the drivers personal cell that he was there. I texted him back direct that I would be out asap when our luggage arrive. I also got a personal text from the next driver that he was on the way and I responded we were in the hotel lobby waiting. It was great.
I had a good experience with them in NYC. Would use again without hesitation. There was an “Amex Offers to You” at some point, 50 off 150, not sure if it’s still available.
Thanks Rene, I will give it a try as I am on the #deleteuber band wagon because of their lack of ethics. Been happy with Lyft for the most part despite some rare bad drivers.
@marcos – I can understand why so many are dumping Uber. I still use them but try to use Lyft whenever I can.
We had a similar, excellent experience getting from Amsterdam airport to our B & B using rideways.
US Bank Altitude also has the 15% off Ground Link if you charge to that card.
@James – Great to know thanks.
I did a Delta flight ATL to BCN a summer ago and bags also took forever and a day with priority… at least 45 minutes waiting once I got to the baggage carousel.
