Well I really should have expected nothing less than the near worthless service SkyBonus has provided during my time in the program. As readers know, I was targeted with a survey from Delta SkyBonus promising me 10,000 bonus points for taking part. However, it seems Delta Air Lines is going to back out on that promise of points for my feedback. I reached out to inquire about the points and was told:
“Dear Rene De Lambert,
Thank you for contacting SkyBonus. I forwarded your feedback to the SkyBonus team. Unfortunately at this time, your account will close on Thursday. We are not awarding the survey points before then. If your company grows in the future and meets the two minimum requirements of having 5 unique employee travelers and spending $5,000 per year please contact us.
Regards,
SkyBonus Service Center”
Well that is just swell, Delta. Thanks so much for standing behind what you promised me (I guess “honesty, integrity and respect” does not apply to SkyBonus). This really is a perfect way to end my participation in this “LARGE” business rewards program from Delta. When you look at the recent history of the program this really is par for the course. Just take a look:
- Changed to $5,000 spend requirement
- Program mistake cost many who knows how many points
- No notice jumped awards mid year
- And AGAIN jump awards no notice
- No notice jumped awards just before year end
- Change to 5 employees + 5k minimum each year
The bottom line is we should not feel all that bad if we are being kicked out on “Thursday” like me because this program truly makes SkyMiles look like caviar and champagne dreams in comparison. That is an accomplishment few rewards programs can match.
I also hope you have considered, as I posted about here, how you are going to get your points out before the 1st of the year.
But what if you are a few thousand points short of some redemption? If you have never taken part of the SkyBonus University program you can quickly and almost instantly score 2,000 bonus points for a few minutes of your time to get to a level to hopefully cash out with few points remaining to turn to dust! – René

Wow. To put it mildly, I have extremely low expectations from Delta, but this is impressively bad even by their standards. “You know that stuff we promised you? Just kidding. Ha ha!”
So sorry, bud.
I think at this point, anyone who does business with Delta and expects anything beyond transit from point A to point B mostly “deserves” whatever disappointment they receive …
I’m not really sure why blogs even include Delta anymore as its only varying degrees of reporting how they are abusing loyal customers yet again (and again and again and …)
The pendulum will swing back the other way one day. Right now, DL is all about profit and lots of it. The day will come when fuel prices rise, competition will increase and airlines will find themselves looking for ways to attract customers.
Until then, I’m going to spread my travel budget across more carriers.
