As I talked about in August, US Bank apparently was flooded with cancellations after the FREE second night award went away in June this year with their popular Club Carlson credit card. <–LINK
The result was anyone who called, or did a secure message, asking for a free night cert to make up for this change would get one in a few weeks.
My wife called at 4PM on August 18th and just today the certs posted to both her Club Carlson card with an annual fee and the downgraded card she also holds. I have booked both certs using the code from the cert and the promo code USBANKEC.
The bottom line is these two certs saved me over $500 for the two nights I have booked them for next year. I also used some of my remaining points to finish off the nights I needed. That, and a combination of SkyMiles LEVEL 1 awards and bump vouchers is going to make my anniversary trip this year as close to free as I can make it! 🙂
Have you got your free night cert yet? – Rene

Just hit yesterday.
I actually cancelled the card when my annual fee came due at end of July. Then a few weeks later I got the free night certificate without even asking! I am going to use it on an upcoming trip. It is saving me about $140 vs where I was going to stay. It doesn’t expire for a year but I wasn’t sure when I would be near a decent property so decided to use it before someone figures out I cancelled the card and removes it from my account!
Called in late August and still waiting for mine to hit.
I complained right when the change was made and got my cert long ago. I’ve booked a night across the street from the Prado in Madrid, not really one of the highest value bookings possible, but a terrific location for me. They told me it was Club Carlson, not US Bank, that canceled the perk, though I would think there would be contracts they would have both been party to. This could be why someone got the cert despite having canceled the card.
US Bank handled it poorly at the time, actually continuing to advertise the last night free perk for weeks after it was known it was going away. This is a bit of a makeup gesture, but welcome in its own right.
Hi Rene,
I checked my husband’s account and his free night also posted. Awesome-3 free nights between us. Now we have to figure out where to go!
I keep checking but nothing so far yet (was told 6 to 8 weeks to wait by the supervisor). I Ithink I called a bit later than mid-August.
