I wish I had the time to run about 10 of these. I really looked at as many as I could as this was one of the best I have ever seen. Why? Not only was the price good, but the fare class was “B”. For those of you who do not know the alphabet soup of Delta fare classes, that is a VERY high coach fare class, in fact, just one slot away from full Y class. That is amazing.

What that means is 50% bonus of MQMs that is, under SkyMiles 2015, the only point of flying Delta (we are all smart enough to understand there is no point in earning SkyMiles by flying anymore).

This also means, under this fare class, my upgrades chances as a Diamond in a B class, with the Delta Reserve card, would be very very good. Fare class is, after all, one of the biggest bits when it comes to upgrades (and if you get to Y class you can even trump a medallion higher than you).

Some folks flew this pre-SkyRubles2015 so they did earn a ton of SkyRubles plus MQMs for the run. Again, I really wanted to but just could not. So I settled for just two of these. One of them just completed and the next one will be just after the reader dinner in MSP on the 22nd of this month.

I expected to run into a few fellow runners along the way and even had TexasYankee with me on this one as it turns out. Fun stuff.

But I live in South Bend. Even at sub 3CPM there would be some cost to position up to MSP as well as a few nights in hotels in MSP (I did not want to redeye or stay in EAT). Costs to fly from SBN up to MSP are ugly. However, Chicago, that is only an extra hour or so drive farther than SBN, was very reasonable but would earn fewer MQMs. I booked it. Perhaps there would be some big schedule changes to help out as well as a chance to SDC for more MQMs 24 hours before the trip up. More on that later in the final post in this series.

As to the hotel, I decided on the SPG Four Points by Sheraton due to the fact that it was a good price burning SPG points to make the stays free (or just about free anyway).

Overall I really liked this setup for a run. Now I was just hoping that everything would fall in place just perfectly for max points and fun (btw, it did)! – René

Are you sure there is a Four Points in Wenatachee??? The best hotel there is SpringHill Suites.

@AL – The 4Pts was in MSP, not EAT. I did not overnight in EAT.
