I really like the slim line 757 first class seat upgrades. So much new from an old bird!

rene and dave delta 757 slimline seats

I will be covering my latest MSP-SEA-EAT Delta Mileage Run later on this week, but I at least wanted to touch on a livery that Delta is upgrading as they can (i.e. get them and get the seats to upgrade them). Dave & I had a chance to enjoy these updated seats on the way back to MSP from Seattle’s SeaTac airport.

new delta 1st class 757 slimline seats

Unlike the old seats that seem a bit over-sized and cramped to me, these seats are comfortable and make much better use of the space. Clearly the IFE is VERY good (just like the 737-900). The screens are bright and the touch is responsive and works well. Plus you have an earphone jack in both the screen AND in the armrest. Really like that.

As for power, you have the USB on the IFE screen, in your armrest and then you also have power between your seats. You can never have enough power and you have power with these seats.

I will also say I like the fold out tray but I think, years from now, they are going to have stability issues, but that is not now.

Lastly the back row. With the old seats the recline felt very limited and when the seat in front of you went all the way back it was not a fun place to be. The new seats are, to me, much better and I will not actively avoid this row anymore. Nice change.

Bottom line Delta has done a nice job making this very old jet seem fresh and new. Have you had a chance to fly the 757s with the new slim line seats? Do you like them? – René

Rene! First class looks very modern! But what is the report on the “mini-cabin” of COMFORT + between Door 2 and First Class? The seat map makes it look like the bathroom is too close for comfort!

But it reminds me of the old Northwest 757s section – back when they only had `14 seats in first class!

@Greg – I like the 2 seat row, back one is best. The bulkhead 3 front I would avoid.

Totally agree. The new 757 seat upgrades and lighting is great. I was on a flight from BOS to ATL on a new lay flat seat on a 757-200 and that was great! Very roomy and comfortable. Better then the lay flat on 767. The plane was flying to ATL for scheduled service, but it was a great flight. Wish delta had some lay flat seats from ATL on trans-con.

Great news. Now if they could update those old A319 birds you won’t wonder if you have gone back in time. The old interiors are definitely museum material.

Is there anyway to identify the upgrade version when selecting flights. I think last year as one of its enhancement delta announced it was reducing first class seats to 20 on 757s, putting in more economy sears and installing new luggage bins. Is all of that being done along with this new first class livery?

@John – On mine just seats. Not sure about how to tell what birds have been redone. Anyone else know?

When booking a flight in delta.com, how would you know if you will be in the newest 757 … I flown in 8 757 last year and all of them were old. My father flown for Christmas and he was so lucky because the plane was with the interior (he said the plane smelled so good, it was clean and new).

@Hector – You don’t and they can swap equipment at any time. In time they will have all the “mods” done.
