Oh Delta “IT”, is this really too much to ask for? What is your pet peeve?

how to have delta pick your seat for you

One of my biggest frustrations with Delta “IT” is their almost complete lack of notice when things change on your itineraries. Yes, I know sometimes you will notice, but more often than not you will not know that your “perfect seat” has been changed due to say an equipment swap. What you can do to help at least get what you want is setting your seat preference at “My Delta.”

how to have delta pick your seat for you page 2

Then once at “My Profile” you simply go to flight preferences and see what it says. If it’s not what you like open that tab up.

how to have delta pick your seat for you page 3

Lastly you are at the flight preferences page where you can select what you want. Well sorta. It would be nice if you could have even more choices like exit row but you have to do the “I accept” thing when you select those; why not a blanket I accept (there may be rules against this). Or what about always Economy Comfort if you qualify. Just my gripe I guess.

trip-it pro free from arrival card

Reader Pablo suggested I at long last get going with TripIt Pro, since it is one of the many FREE perks I get with my Barclay’s Arrival+ card, as it is a nice way to keep up to date and even have it look for seats I want when they open up. So far I like it and it is very simple to forward my itineraries to them to have them add it to my upcoming trips. However, do keep in mind, Delta blocks them from some active checks just like they do with Award Wallet. Very customer unfriendly IMO.

So what do you think? What is your biggest pet peeve about Delta “IT” you would like fixed (other than the award booking site we all know is hopelessly broken)? – René

I booked an amazing award to Seoul via NRT, but they discontinued the NRT-SEL route about 6 months before I Was due to take off. All I got was a change in schedule that tripled my total flight time. After calling them and realizing their wasn’t much to be done I was very disappointed but if they cancel a whole route it’s not like I was the only affected person. Fine.

Then, over the next 5 months, they proceeded to change the schedule: dates, times, connecting cities, massive layovers, etc., no less than *11* time. About every two weeks I’d get an e-mail letting me know that my schedule had changed. The worst part was it was a favor I was doing for my friend, so every time the schedule changed I had to relay the information. Delta stood firm every time it happened that they couldn’t know when or what else would change, that it was out of their control, and that I would have to accept whatever dates they chose for me. I finally hit the wall a month out from the flight and cancelled the ticket, booked a great connection through United, and sold every last Delta mile to a points broker to make sure I wouldn’t have to ever think about booking an award through them again.

@Ford – I love schedule changes to improve my trips but to each his own.

Just tried printing boarding passes and all that it printed 6 times was “if your plans change contact Delta at etc. No tickets. So my wife tried it on her’s and same thing. Well at least we’re checked in, but no drink coupons or Boarding passes.

I rather agree with Delta Points. I booked tix 9 months out and now plan on doing that whenever possible to ENSURE that there is some sort of schedule change so that I can make my own changes as they come up. On this particular trip, I was able to switch to a much better business class product after Delta changed the time of the flight. It was been changed again and I have no problem with the change, but I’m holding out till right before my trip in case there is anything I want to adjust. They are fantastic about doing reroutes or date changes.

I just tried to change my preference as indicated in this post and I got an error message saying it can’t be done at this time, check back later. The whole thing is stuck and I can’t even log out of my account. Did all of your followers, Rene, try to do this at the same time and we shut delta online down? I knew you were popular but that beats all!

@Christine – like with all things Delta, logout (hang up) try again. Will work at some point! (maybe)

If you think scheduling tix far ahead so you can then switch to a better product when the inevitable schedule changes come in, well maybe that is a subject for your next entry. 🙂

However, as for my complaint with Delta IT, I’ll take issue with your characterization that seat changes may be due to equipment changes. My seat assignments in first class usually (more than 50/50) get changed, with NO equipment change.

The pattern is always the same: I can recheck as much as I want, but right at the moment that the window opens for medallions to get their upgrades, my seat assignment gets changed, and the FC cabin gets completely filled, so I cannot change my seat assignment back to what I picked.

I really don’t know if the great delta.com computer is doing this automatically, or if there is actually a human moving my seats as a favor to the medallions, but it is a ludicrous way to treat those of us who pay for our seats.

Can anyone tell me where on the Delta web site one can find out MQD’s for a trip AFTER it is booked???

@Jerry – look at your receipt for the trip(must be logged in): https://www.delta.com/mydelta/walletMyReceiptSummary
      .
The base amount BEFORE tax is your MQD amount credit you will get.

According to yesterday’s Atlanta Journal Constitution, Delta has now bought the contractor who is responsible for IT (and for a good sum of money). Those people will now be Delta employees. Per Delta, it’s going to make things better. Really??? I’d have found another contractor rather than buy one that can’t do better than what they’ve got now.

@Denise – the really funny thing is it seem the company was divested (or at least part of the software) years ago and is now back at Delta 😉

I would like to see on the my itineraries page the mqm’s and miles I will earn for an upcoming trip. United does this on the website and the app and it seems like a simple but nice feature.
