On the real Delta blog Taking Off i.e. the one run by Delta Air Lines the other day they had the first official photos of the new 757s. I did get to see some advanced release photos and having IFE throughout coach will be a very nice upgrade and it looks like similar slim line seats as in the 737-900’s. Do keep in mind that most, including me, like the slim line seats Delta has chosen. They are not the uncomfortable kind that other airlines have chosen.
So the stats on these new configurations are:

• Electronic seat controls with adjustable lumbar support

That is a lot of bullet points to look at. Power power power. With all our “toys” power is good. Just because it bears repeating, most LIKE the Delta choice for the slim line seats! As to the biz class, keep in mind there are less seats than before. This matters little on the JFK-LAX/SFO/SEA route where the upgraded birds will fly first as medallions cannot get free upgrades on those routes. However, on other routes, as they start to change over, it will mean less upgrade opportunities.
The choice apparently had to be made to have non individual aisle access so you will have to climb over your seat mate or have them wake up and be upright to get out. Then again, the space on the old 757 was so tight the situation was not really any different so I am OK with that as well. The seats do look VERY nice and I cannot wait to fly it.
This now leaves the old domestic 767-300 as the oldest and worst seats on Delta jets. Many of them are going away with the retirement of the 747s. I am sad to see those go, but happy to enjoy the upgraded interiors Delta is rolling out. – René
EDIT: There are good new photos in THIS post on FlyerTalk!

Rene,
Will the old 767 be leaving the fleet, or getting upgraded?
As far as future upgrade availablity. Have the changes in the Medallian program effected the number of medallian members on the rolls? A lot of people talked about jumping ship when Delta changed the rules, but I am not sure there is a better program to jump to anymore. If the new program shrinks the rolls then does it mean that upgrades will get easier? Maybe my reasonning is too simple.
@Sam – They are looking to replace most of the old domestic 767s. There are already 100 737-900 on the way but clearly not big enough to replace the wide body 767-300s. As to more or less upgrades, I have not seen much difference but perhaps readers can chime in and advise if they “feel” their upgrade %%% has been better, worse or same this year.
How are there less seats in BE on the JFK transcons? 16=16 last time I checked.
@Gene – there are many versions of the 757s. Some will not change other will downgrade. You can check out PM&M post about the downgrades in seats here:

Rene, is DAL upgrading ALL of their 757’s? Also, if they are retiring the 767’s what will they use as replacement? A330’s, 777’s, 757’s?
@Geoff – that is my understanding but I believe some will NOT be full flats but the ones you see in the 737-900s. According to Aviation week:
“The carrier plans to look at four options: The Airbus A350-900 and -1000, all three models of the Boeing 787, the current versions of the A330 and a re-engined A330.” http://aviationweek.com/commercial-aviation/delta-issue-major-widebody-replacement-rfp
.
Will be the replacements as I linked to in the 747 post: http://deltapoints.boardingarea.com/2014/03/14/less-6-years-fly-deltas-747-will-miss/
Ugh…the pitch continues to decrease. EC is now just above what coach used to be. This year I gave up flying Delta and switched to JetBlue for all US and Caribbean travel. How long until people start dropping from deep vein thrombosis? But, Delta is not as bad as Air France. You need a chiropractor when you get off one of their trans-Atlantic flights 🙂
@Joy – I will be on the OLD AF 747 in coach on a NAI fare attack sale. Think of me – I think it will hurt! 🙁
Losing seats in the forward cabin definitely is a bummer but there’s a small silver lining to this cloud. All variants of the 757 in Delta’s fleet now will have the same number of first-class seats, which will make the process of estimating one’s chances of scoring an upgrade a bit easier.
Losing 8 seats?
Say goodbye to most red eye or long haul upgrades!
But, it makes sense what Deta is doing. Reward 1st class purchase with more miles and reduce the chance of an upgrade to force you into BUYING that seat.
