Well, this has been an interesting journey so far.
I did not get to have breakfast in the American Express Centurion lounge in Atlanta and after a pleasant flight and a just OK lunch I have found that my bags are following me from Mexico City T2 to T1 where my Air France flight is set to depart from (phew).
Now it was time to enjoy some quality time and a massage at the Centurion T1 that I reviewed just over a year ago. But as you can see from the photo above we could not enter from the non-secure side as before. No worries right?
Since we did not have any bags to check we did not have to wait for the Air France desk to open up (3 hours before departure) and made our way through security and to the now temporary tiny Centurion check-in desk. We were on a connecting ticket so entering should not be subject to any entrance rules – but we were.
We were told that (for some made up reason) we could only enter 4 hours before our flight and we were 5 hours out.
Thanks Amex! I am so valuing paying mega bucks for my card(s) to see your lounge reps making up random rules* here in Mexico City. As a point of reference I have been any number of times to the T2 club and never ever been turned away with a connecting ticket even with a very long layover (This visit was well before summer 2026 new rules are to be implemented).
After the walk of shame and wandering off to find a somewhat quite-ish gate to sit we made our way back to the lounge and were finally admitted. The lounge, or should I say temporary lounge, is very tiny. Take a look:

That’s it. All of it. No showers. No spa. No massage room. Nothing. I did not ask when the remodel would be completed or if any of the old amenities would be back upon completion.
We did check in with our Amex Platinum card (2 guests are still currently free at this location) and food and drinks were complementary. The wifi worked and was respectably fast.
Overall another Amex Centurion disappointment on this journey and it will be interesting to visit this club once all the T1 construction is done and not just on the lounge.
Time to fly Air France again and I was excited to try this new seat. Was it as good as expected? How about the food and service? Stay tuned! – René
