Since it does not look like the USA is going to see an EU261 type rule anytime in the near future we have to hope the airlines do the “right thing” when we are delayed, like providing hotel rooms if you have to overnight (more on this later) as well as meal credits if you are very delayed. I have found, over the years, that Delta has been good (if not VERY good) about handing out either printed (as you see below) or digital meal vouchers when issues do come up.
I was handed a few after endless delays on the way home from my recent NCL Viva cruise when flights were delayed by over 6 hours resulting in a need to overnight at the airport as well as the next day my flight having mechanical issues delaying the flight by almost 5 hours resulting in yet another missed connection and then even my last rebooked flight was late by a number of hours. It was not Delta’s finest moment over a number of days.
With the paper ones you are somewhat limited what you can do with them and for us we used them (you can combine them btw) for dinner in Detroit Airport. But we also, over the days of issues, got some of the digital coupons / credit card ones as well. Since we have Sky Club access we really did not “need” to eat in the airport so what to do with them?
It is no great secret that for a long time now you can use these digital credit cards to load into your Starbucks account, but there is a limitation that you can only load $10 and thus you are leaving $2 behind as most of these vouchers are $12 each. So is there a better option? Yes!
One of the best options is to open up your DoorDash app and use that to spend the vouchers. Why?
Not only can you load DoorDash itself but you can buy an almost endless amount of other gift cards and you can use them for the full $12.
Want to buy a Taco Bell gift card and then load that into your Taco Bell App? No problem.
Same goes for Subway and other. Maybe you don’t want a food credit then there are also other gift cards inside the DoorDash app to consider. Either way this is one of the best options, to me, to lock in full value that you can spend when you want to well after your day of travel. – René
