If you find yourself in San Diego — especially in the vicinity of Petco Park and the wonderful Gaslamp Quarter — the Hotel Indigo is a decent lodging option. I spent a night there before visiting the Chase Sapphire Lounge San Diego. (This is also the trip when I enjoyed riding the train between Los Angeles and America’s Finest City.)
I used 28,000 IHG One Rewards points to reserve a standard king room. The price was a bit higher than I wanted. On the same token, I made my plans less than a week before the trip and it’s one of IHG’s more quality brands.
Where is the Hotel Indigo San Diego Gaslamp?
The Hotel Indigo San Diego Gaslamp is located at 509 Ninth Ave, San Diego, CA, 92101. It’s between Market Street and Island Ave.
Acar ride ride to/from San Diego International Airport (SAN) take around 15-20 minutes.
It’s three blocks from Petco Park’s Balboa Park Gate entrance. Assuming the price isn’t awful, the Indigo is an awesome option if you’re attending a San Diego Padres baseball game, a concert, or another event at the stadium. Petco Park is a must-visit if you’re a baseball fan. It’s a gorgeous stadium featuring amazing views, great food, and tasty beverage options. Petco Park hosts a Christmas market that opens in early December, too.

Hotel Indigo San Diego Gaslamp Review
The Indigo lobby features a little sitting area, bar, and a marketplace where you can buy snacks, coffee, and other beverages.
I recommend getting your coffee elsewhere. It’s $5 for a cup and the coffee isn’t that great.
Front desk representative Harmony provided a warm welcome — and looked at me like I was a crazy person for walking from the Santa Fe Depot train station. (I probably was! 🙂 ) My IHG Platinum elite status — a benefit from my IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card — helped score me a Studio Suite upgrade with a ballpark view! (All information about the IHG Premier Card was collected independently by Eye of the Flyer. It was neither provided nor reviewed by the card issuer.) Thanks again to Harmony, who hooked me up with some extra bottled water after my trek from the train station! Harmony is someone who acts like they own the hotel — in a great way — and could have a long career in hospitality.
Let’s head up to the room!
This orange banner or blanket hanging on the wall greeted me at the end of the suite hallway.

There’s a great Frigidaire mini-fridge.

The king bed was very comfortable. My only gripe: it needed more pillows.

My room faced toward Petco Park’s home plate.

The hotel isn’t close enough to watch much meaningful ballgame action, but you can see the park is just a quick walk away.
This is the view from the room’s work desk.

Here’s a peek inside the bathroom.

I was downright starving for a snack when I arrived, so I headed up to Borrego Rooftop for some chips and a drink. I returned later for dinner. (Borrego is part of the Resy restaurant program!) I spent the rest of the night in my room, watching Netflix and writing. I was very comfortable and loved the views. At one point, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket zoomed over downtown San Diego!

Except for a few runs from the nearby SDFD Station 4, the neighborhood was pretty quiet and relaxing.
Final Approach
The Hotel Indigo San Diego Gaslamp Quarter is a great option if you’re in town for a Petco Park event or visiting the Gaslamp. It’s definitely a good score for your annual free night certificate if you have an IHG credit card. The property is clean, and the staff is wonderful. But get your coffee somewhere else.

Nice review! The Pendry is nice too.
Thanks! And thanks for the Pendry advice. My wife and I love San Diego. It’s so pretty, the downtown area is great, and there are so many F & B options.
