Delta and Uber Announce Their Partnership’s SkyMiles Earning Details

We learned several months ago that Delta Air Lines was ditching Lyft as its ridesharing partner and switching to Uber. What we didn’t know was how many SkyMiles those Uber purchases would earn. But that’s no longer a mystery.

Delta and Uber SkyMiles Earnings

Unless you ride Uber and order Uber Eats a lot, you probably won’t get too excited about how many SkyMiles you earn. But as a former colleague loves to say, Hey, it’s better than a kick to the head, isn’t it?

• 3 SkyMiles per eligible dollar spent on Uber Reserve trips  (book trips ahead of time)
• 2 SkyMiles per eligible dollar spent on premium rides such as Uber XL, Uber SUV, Uber Comfort, Uber Black, and Uber Black SUV
• 1 SkyMile per eligible dollar spent on UberX rides to and from airports
• 1 SkyMiles per eligible dollar spent on Uber Eats restaurant and grocery orders of at least $40

If your Marriott Bonvoy account is also linked to Uber, you’ll have to pick your preferred earning partner: Marriott or Delta.

Exclusions

This Uber spending will not earn you SkyMiles:

• Trips taken on Family Profiles or Teen accounts
• Rides booked through the Guest Rides feature a
• Fees or interest charges
• Cash advances
• Purchases of traveler’s checks
• Purchases of gift cards
• Person-to-person transactions
• Purchases or reloading of prepaid cards
• Purchases of other cash equivalents

How Can You Link Your Delta and Uber Accounts?

If you signed up for the Delta and Uber partnership waitlist, you can link your accounts immediately. If you didn’t, you’re eligible to link your accounts on April 24.

Open up your Uber app and tap “Account.”

Tap “Partner Rewards” and you’ll see this:

Tap “Turn rides and orders into miles with Delta Air Lines.” (Side note: both my The Platinum Card® from American Express and American Express® Gold Card are registered with Uber but only one is showing the monthly partner reward, yet I receive both cards’ benefits. Anyway, back to our show.)

Tap “Link to start earning miles” and you’ll be prompted to enter your SkyMiles credentials.

Log in. Then you’re registered.

If you choose SkyMiles as your reward partner and tap “Save,” you’ll see this:

Delta SkyMiles® American Express Rideshare Credit

Remember that the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card, Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card, and Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card each offer cardholders up to $10 in statement credits each month (up to $120 annually) on U.S. rideshare purchases made with Uber, Lyft, Curb, Revel, and Alto.

You should earn that card’s applicable SkyMiles for Uber purchases, even for the $10 statement credit.
