Select credit card holders can earn a total of four bonus miles when purchasing Delta gift cards now through the end of June. And the SkyMiles earnings help Delta flyers come out slightly ahead of what they’d receive making Delta purchases.
Delta Gift Card Amex Offer

Delta SkyMiles American Express Card members can earn three (3) or five (5) additional SkyMiles for each dollar spent on qualifying purchases on Delta gift cards online only at delta.com/giftcards/amex. (It depends on which offer you receive.) You can earn 10,000 total additional miles and the offer expires on June 30, 2025. As with other Amex Offers, terms apply and manual enrollment is required.

The terms say both physical and electronic gift cards are eligible. Purchases must be made in US dollars and the offer isn’t valid on purchases shipped outside the US. (That’s not a problem for most of us.)

Are These Considered Delta Purchases?
When I visited the gift card website, I noticed that CashStar was the merchant. So, these purchases should not code as Delta Air Lines spending. In other words, you won’t earn your card’s 2X-3X for Delta purchases. You’ll get the 1X for “all other eligible purchases” plus 3X for the promotion for a total of four (4) or six (6) SkyMiles.
Simply put, earn 4X SkyMiles per dollar purchasing Delta gift cards, up to about $3,333 in spending. 🙂 That’s a better return than the standard 2X-3X your respective card gives you for Delta purchases.
Plus, you’ll still earn any applicable Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQD) for spending on your card:
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card: $1 MQD for every $10 in eligible purchases
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card: $1 MQD for every $10 in eligible purchases
- Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card: $1 MQD for every $20 in eligible purchases
- Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card: $1 MQD for every $20 in eligible purchases
Do Flights Purchased With Delta Gift Cards Earn SkyMiles and MQD?
Yes! You’ll still earn applicable MQD and redeemable SkyMiles on flights purchased with your Delta gift cards.
The big upshot with the Delta gift card Amex Offer is earning the bonus SkyMiles on your gift card purchase. Whether or not that’s worth the time, effort, and floating your money until you use the gift card is up to you.
Happy shopping, earning, and traveling!
