Delta Air Lines released some details of its upcoming partnership with Uber.
In an email to (at least some) SkyMiles members on Wednesday, the airline announced how many miles Delta customers enrolled in the program can earn for select Uber purchases (valid in the United States only):
- 3 SkyMiles per dollar spent on Uber reserve rides (rides ordered up to 90 days in advance)
- 2X SkyMiles on premium rides (i.e., Uber Black, SUV, and Comfort)
- 1X SkyMile on Uber Eats orders over $40
- 1X SkyMile on UberX Rides to or from United States airports
Taxes, fees, tips, and other non-food or beverage charges are ineligible for SkyMiles earnings.
All we know about a launch date is “spring 2025.”
Quick Thoughts
Something I noticed right away: members aren’t rewarded SkyMiles for Uber or UberX rides that don’t involve airports. Delta’s partnership with Lyft awarded at least 1 SkyMile per eligible dollar spent on Lyft rides, regardless of where they went. So, this development is a bummer. I will look to Lyft first before ordering an Uber whenever I order a non-airport ride or don’t need a “premium” car.
But all the Delta-Uber details haven’t been announced, so maybe that’s in the pipeline.
I like that Uber Eats will earn something — but that $40 minimum order isn’t fantastic.
It would be great if SkyMiles earnings were based on your subtotal — regardless of payment method. People using Uber Cash (i.e., through Uber Cash gift cards or deposits from their The Platinum Card® from American Express or American Express® Gold Card would earn miles while saving. That wouldn’t surprise me, given that Delta and Uber are both in the Amex ecosphere.
(Amex Platinum members enjoy Uber VIP status and earn up to $200 in Uber savings on rides or Uber Eats eats orders in the US annually. Receive $15 in Uber Cash each month, plus a bonus $20 in December. Amex Gold members enjoy up to $120 in Uber savings on rides or eats orders in the US annually, distributed as $10 each month. Uber Cash and Uber VIP status is available to the primary cardholder only. An Amex Card must be selected as the payment method for your Uber or Uber Eats transaction to redeem the Amex Uber Cash benefit. Enrollment is required. Terms apply. Uber Cash deposits are made monthly and expire if not used. To receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible Amex Platinum or Amex Gold Card must be a method of payment in your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States.)
Stacking Plays
Here’s a way you should be able to earn your eligible SkyMiles on Uber rides and save a few bucks.
Certain Delta Amex card members can earn up to $10 in statement credits each month (up to $120 annually) on U.S. rideshare purchases made with Uber, Lyft, Curb, Revel, and Alto when the rides are charged to their cards:
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Gold Business American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card
Manual enrollment is required and terms apply.
Final Approach
The new Delta and Uber partnership looks interesting. I wish there were some small improvements (i.e., all rides rewarded) because it’s not enough to keep me away from Lyft. But perhaps more details will be announced soon.

A reminder – you can link your Lyft account to Hilton Honors and earn points that way. I had preferred Delta but now I need to switch my account to continue to earn something extra on these trips.
I should have mentioned you can also link you Alaska Airlines or Bilt accounts alternatively.
I have my Marriott account linked to my Uber account. Can I have multiple links accounts?
Using it with Marriot already. Weak program from Delta which is “on brand” from them lately. I have been switching to Southwest for Domestic for the last few months.
The exclusions model what we see with the Marriott partnership. Uber is much less generous than Lyft with partner points. But with few other partnerships, we are left here to decide whether we want to be Bonvoyed or collect Sky Pesos. Meanwhile, Lyft is doling out Alaska or Bilt points in reasonable quantities.
The deal is more important for the smaller company Uber, so it is not surprising that Delta negotiated it to their benefit… like only rides to airports earn miles, minimum spend of 40$ for Uber eats etc…..but the sad part is neither Uber nor most Delta skymiles members benefit much from this deal… I will pass and book either Uber or Lyft solely based on who gives me a cheaper ride, when I want one…
I can’t get excited about a partnership that will most likely earn me a few hundred miles a year and do nothing to maintain my status for 2026.
We tried Lyft w Delta numerous times. We were left stranded every time But for hotel personnel who called personal contacts, would have missed our flights. Good riddance to Lyft
