Pour One Out: Delta No Longer Offers Tip Top Canned Cocktails

It’s only appropriate that I publish this post during cocktail hour.

Delta Air Lines is no longer offering the fantastic Tip Top Proper Cocktails as part of their onboard beverage program.

I ordered a Tip Top Old Fashioned this past weekend during a Delta flight to Los Angeles (LAX). The flight attendant apologized and said the airline no longer serves any of the canned cocktails. (I settled for Woodford Reserve.)

A Delta spokesperson confirmed to me that Tip Top Cocktails aren’t available on the flights.

“Delta regularly evaluates our food and beverage offerings to provide our customers the best experience onboard,” the spokesperson said. “We are currently assessing long-term options for our cocktail program.”

They noted that the Tip Top drinks might still be available in certain circumstances on particular flights depending on individual station availability. So, maybe you’ll luck out and your next flight’s beverage cart will have some of the last remaining cans.

This must be a fairly new development because I’m pretty sure I had one (or two) during my April trip to see the total solar eclipse. In fact, Delta celebrated Tip Top drinks in an inflight food and beverage press announcement at the end of January.

My wife enjoyed the Tip Top Margaritas — especially with a splash of cranberry juice. (That’s a great recipe I learned from a Points Guy colleague during a Delta flight.)

And some of us will miss the espresso martinis — especially when combined with Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream.

Blog readers who commented about the Tip Top drinks really seemed to enjoy them. Social media reaction seemed positive, as well. But maybe the drinks didn’t sell well (no beverage-industry pun intended).

Here’s hoping Delta and Tip Top can reunite.

Final Approach

Delta Air Lines confirmed that Tip Top Proper Cocktails are no longer offered on the airline’s flights. There might be some cans in beverage carts here and there, so it can’t hurt to ask.

Meanwhile, it’s back to our old standbys for now.

Way too sweet for my liking- god knows how much sugar was in those cocktails!

People worried about sugar should probably stay away from cocktails in general. 🙂

I don’t think they said they were worried about sugar. They just said they thought Tip Top cocktails were sweeter than a properly prepared cocktail should be. Big difference.

Thank goodness! Plenty of bloggers/posts were negative about them; seems like a bit of confirmation bias in this one…

Are you saying that most of the reviews and comments you saw about the Tip Top products were negative?

I was able to get the old fashioned on a 6/6 fight, but on a 6/10 flight I was told that they no longer carry it.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these cocktails! I am a cocktail snob and find these to be great alternatives while traveling. I have many cans at home that I take with me on trips from time to time. How sad!!

They also got rid of the Topo Chico hard seltzer.
Honestly the domestic first/C+ drink options seem to be going a not great direction…
(I also fly JetBlue a decent amount and feel like I have the same or better options there as Delta these days)

Hate to see these deletes while Delta in its publicity touts expanded and new Delta lounges. Hope they continue to pay attention to the individual customer.

The canned Margarita was very good..Miss it.. Now could they evaluate getting a nice Sav Blanc and please totally re-do the tired snack basket..Those Dijon pretzels are horrid.

A big disappointment, especially after Delta announced Tip Top margheritas were making a come-back in January. My experience is similar to some of yours — one random flight had one, and then a 3-hour both ways in June it was unavailable. Hopefully in the future, Delta bases these decisions on customer feedback and not on blogs or travel reviews. Hoping this is a blip in otherwise great customer service and on-board experience.

I didn’t particularly care for them. With TipTop and Cutwater I thought they were just not good.
