I recently visited Atlanta for a quick weekend trip to meet up with some friends and attend an event. All of our festivities were near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), so I looked for hotels around there. An annual Anniversary Night certificate from my IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card was set to expire in mid-May — just after my trip to the ATL.
I found the Kimpton Hotel Overland Atlanta. I’ve seen weekday rates as high as $460. Weekend nights can get into the $200s. So, I was happy to snag an Anniversary Night perk from my $99 annual fee credit card!
Where is the Kimpton Hotel Overland Atlanta?
The Kimpton Overland can be found at 2 Porsche Dr, Atlanta, Georgia, 30354.
It’s right by Porsche’s North American headquarters — as well as the Porsche Experience.
That’s somewhere you can spend between a few hundred and a few thousand dollars to take a Porsche onto a racetrack and go wild.
Arrival and Check-in
A couple of friends not staying at the hotel kindly gave me a ride to the Kimpton Overland.
When we checked in, one of them said, “Hey! Chalet all day!” The fun and welcoming young ladies behind the front desk both said, “Chalet all day!” back and kindly honored the social password!
Drink coupons for the Overland’s rooftop bar were part of the password’s surprise gift. But the bar closes at 10:00 PM—even on weekends. So, they instead gave me a breakfast coupon for the next day and upgraded me to a king deluxe room.
They also offered me a 2:00 PM checkout as part of my IHG Platinum Elite status (another benefit of the IHG Rewards Platinum card). Fantastic customer service from the Overland’s front desk — thank you!
King Deluxe Room
The Kimpton’s king deluxe room is pretty decent.
I like the Porsche wheel art on the headboard.
I didn’t sleep great. The HVAC didn’t get very cool. Pillow firmness is a big thing for me — and their pillows weren’t fantastic.
I have two minor gripes. First, I wish there were a little more counter space near the sink.
Next, it’s difficult to find decent electrical outlet space near the work desk. It’s behind the TV in the wall. I enjoy having a TV on while I work — just a little bit of something I can ignore but look at every so often. But it was hard to ignore the television when it was pretty much in my face.
Breakfast at Apron
The hotel’s restaurant is the stylish Apron.
I used my breakfast coupon the following morning for an omelet and breakfast potatoes.
Wow.
Both were delicious — but the potatoes were especially tasty.
18% gratuity is automatically included on the tab.
If you bring your own refillable water bottle, there’s a station near the lobby.
Final Approach
My stay at the Kimpton Overland was decent. It’s not the greatest hotel where I’ve ever stayed but it’s certainly a good property. The front desk staff that welcomed me were awesome and have a future in hospitality.
I wish the HVAC ran a little better and something could be done about the electrical outlets near the desks. The pillows were a pretty subjective thing and I’m tough to please in that category, so I can’t fault the hotel much there.
Closing down food and beverage at 10:00 PM seems pretty lame. That was disappointing because my friends and I wanted to gaze out at the airport and enjoy some sodas.
But I’d definitely stay here again for an IHG Anniversary Night redemption or a decent points deal.

@Chris I’m pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay, and I concur with your review. That IHG card punches above its weight with value, IMHO. My personal encounter with this hotel occurred when Delta was especially ham-fisted in handling a crew scheduling issue and gave our flight up to DCA a twelve-hour delay, it was 2 AM and I wanted to not sleep in ATL overnight – that 10 PM closing time for the restaurant wasn’t an issue for me. I was fortunate to find a reasonable rate on super short notice (~$200 on a weeknight). During the six hours I spent there, I found it to be a clean and tranquil choice. The breakfast, in particular, was memorable.
“The breakfast, in particular, was memorable.”
In a good way?
@Chris – I distinctly remember the breakfast standing out as both tasty and of a good value. This was from April of 2023. If I were to find myself needing an overnight stay at ATL again, whether by choice or due to operational issues , I would certainly consider returning here. However, I wouldn’t necessarily choose it as a destination hotel as many other Kimptons are.
That’s a very good way of describing the property, Cory.
@Chris – I live 30 miles north of ATL and have thought about using my annual free night certificate from my IHG card to try out the hotel on a night before an especially early flight. I could sleep thirty minutes longer and do some plane spotting over a cocktail the night before.
Just make sure to do your plane spotting before 10:00 PM!
