In June 2022, Delta Air Lines announced the order of 100 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft. Deliveries were expected sometime in 2025.
But that timetable might be pushed back a while. (Sorry, all of you 737 MAX enthusiasts.)
Delta CEO Ed Bastian told Bloomberg (via Reuters) that he doesn’t think it’ll happen quite that fast.
“My guess is it will be another year or two beyond (2025),” he said, adding “…several issues with the Boeing 737 (MAX)…need to be addressed.”
This, of course, follows the infamous Alaska Airlines door-plug incident earlier this year.
Also problematic: “…the FAA has halted production expansion of the Boeing 737 MAX” after “a six-week audit of Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems, prompted by the January 5 incident involving a new, Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft, found multiple instances where the companies allegedly failed to comply with manufacturing quality control requirements.”
And here’s another development: it seems several 737 models might have spoiler issues.
I don’t know all of the details of the Delta-Boeing contract. But part of me wonders if Delta will actually end up taking deliveries of any MAX aircraft.
Stay tuned, folks…

Gosh I hope Delta converts the order to something other than these cursed MAX jets!
Agree!! Who is a 737 max enthusiast? Satan?
I will avoid any flight that uses this aircraft.
I couldn’t help but read the “Who is a…” line and imagine Dana Carvey from SNL as the Church Lady. 🙂
Ha!!
I totally agree
Like how about the A220-300s
By way of Bombardier! Such a lovely plane!
I’d like to see them get rid of this 737s
Ugh I was so happy delta was holding out
And not buying the max!
Now,
Today there was an event
On the 787
Which I adore for its special
Avionics and ability to mitigate turbulence
Supposedly better?.
I hope maxs are grounded again
And the 787s are inspected again ! My goodness!
—>What is going on?
Please NO MAX planes!!!
Boo-eing must have the same hiring criteria as the FAA. I believe in opportunities for the disabled so long as the disabilities, such as “severe intelectual disability” and/or “psychiatric disability”, and line of work do not pose any risk to anyone in the industry. At a time when proper qualification may not always take precedence over quotas, this can be concerning. And I say this as an immigrant, minority woman, with a partial hearing disability.
No way Delta takes any Maxs(Maxes?). They’ll just refurbish their 30 year old current 737’s and carry on:)
