We’re only hours until the Delta SkyMiles 2025 earning period begins (remember, it starts January 1, 2024).
Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM) will roll over one last time. There are a couple of ways you can convert them into something potentially useful.
- Extend earned 2024 Medallion status one year for each 100,000 rollover MQM (i.e., two years for 200K MQM, etc.)
- Convert rollover MQM to MQD at a ratio of 10:1
- Convert rollover MQM to SkyMiles at a ratio of 2:1.
You aren’t limited to just one redemption and will have until December 31, 2024, to decide and execute your choice.
But That’s Beside the Point
Delta IT isn’t exactly known for award-winning performance. It’s not just bloggers and their readers who complain about it. I’ve heard multiple Delta employees snark about the airline’s IT.
So, before MQM disappear — usually close to 12:00 AM EST on January 1, or sometimes earlier — take a screenshot of your MQM totals. You’ll have them as a backup in case something goes wonky next year.

I’ve been “trying” to get their direction on the options and haven’t been able to get an educated support to guide me.
Where/how I made the choice on my own?
I hit PM back in October, made my choice Benedict a week ago, earned 15k MQM, got email from delta early December and so far my PM status still until 2024,
We’ll probably be able to do it once the MQM rollover or February 1 (when the new Medallion year starts).
Sorry Chris if this post comes as duplicate, couldn’t see the original. Fell free to delete one
I spent sometime with Delta CS [chat option] and I was not able to find someone to educate or guide me on my choice selection since we only have until today.
Where do I go to make my choice on how I am using my MQM?
I am already PM until 2025, ending 2023 with 227K MQM and want to be able to make the most beneficial selection. Which still unclear.
Much appreciated the info
Happy New Year
Not yet live as far as we know.
Chris/Rene,
I’m Platinum with 176,000+. I thought I’d have Platinum for 2024 & 2025(75,000 + 100,000. Did I miss something?
So if I’m short about $40 for silver, I can roll over extra MQM to meet the MQD to get silver for 2024? That would be awesome. 🙂 I have almost 80,000 extra MQM.
If you’re $40 short now for Silver, you’re SOL. Or maybe call Delta and ask them for a favor.
I am Platinum, and have 83,035 MQMs. Does that mean only 7,035 are available to roll over?
I already am Platinum for 2024. Does this rollover help for 2025 elite status?
If so, I’m guessing I could get 703 MQDs? Plus I have the Delta Platinum card, the Delta Platinum Business card, and the Delta Reserve card. That should give me an additional 7500 MQDs, I think. Total 8203 MQDs.
So does that mean I’m starting as a year 2025 silver, close to gold? And whatever additional MQDs I earn during 2024 will push me to Gold and then hopefully Platinum? Or am I miscalculating?

Correct.
“I already am Platinum for 2024. Does this rollover help for 2025 elite status?”
Sure does.

Yep!

You should be set!
Thanks for the reminder.
Was there some “change” in the mailing list or the software that manage it? I had thought I unsubscribed, and not gotten any email notifications of new posts since early Oct, then starting at around 1900 Pacific, on 30 Dec, I got 11 or 12 of them in quick succession. They all looked like they were “queued up” on different dates when the posts went live, but never sent (as I unsubscribed, I thought) and then leaked out, last night around 1900 pacific / 2200 eastern?
The ones that went out last night were from WordPress and completely a surprise to us. You can unsubscribe from a link in them. Sorry for the inconvenience and sorry that you left!!
@Chris @Rene Back in Sept, Rene gave his advice on what to do with our existing MQMs as Delta eliminates them in 2024. Did that advice change over the next 2 months after DL rolled back some of their egregious devaluations of elite status?
@Rick – That is a personal choice. If you are currently Diamond and want to keep Diamond for 100k MQMs per year for a few more years that may have great value to you if you keep flying Delta. If not so much then the 50% conversion to SkyPennies may be a better choice.
I have 325k mqm and diamond; my question is if I hit 2025 legit would I be able to add two years after or if I convert it would only be 2025 and 2026 versus get 2025 legit and add 2026 and 2027?
As far as we know, ‘26 and ‘27.
Thanks so much for clarifying/confirming, Chris. Happy travels!
Great reminder Chris – problem is the email didn’t show up in my inbox until noon on 1 January – and of course now my Delta account shows 0 MQMs and I find nothing showing about any rollover so I am at a loss.
Chris – any idea when we will know what MQMs we had at the end of the year and what our options are (since I didn’t get to screen shot my MQMs on Dec 31)?
Retrying – Chris, do you know when Delta will provide the options of what to do with your MQMs rollover? I didn’t get a screen shot of mine on Dec 31 so I’m not sure how many I had but I think it was somewhere around 100K. I am currently at Platinum for 2024.
We don’t yet have a hard date.
