As someone fortunate enough to earn money writing a blog discussing some passions (travel and points/miles) he shares with others, I often receive questions about how the blog earns income.
This often comes up during family and social gatherings, chance encounters with people who read the blog, etc.
Some folks think we earn bazillions of dollars in credit card commissions, traffic in clickbait, and hurl other interesting accusations.
And a few love “parody”ing bloggers on social media and in our comments sections.
So.
In the spirit of Jimmy Kimmel’s Mean Tweets, I decided to discuss topics such as credit card commissions, clickbait, and a few other subjects. And use some of our more colorful and attention-starved lowlifes for content.
But here’s the thing.
I’m doing it as part of the non-profit Chicago Seminars Variety Show online today. If you can’t join us in person at the Delta Marriot Willowbrook, the show is available online. (The session will be recorded and available online later if you can’t make it.)
I’m scheduled for the 2:30 PM Eastern / 11:30 AM Pacific slot. But there are some great presenters you check out, too. Greg from Frequent Miler is going to pop up. There’s a vicious rumor my friend René may make an appearance, too.
See you later today!

2:30 Eastern, 1:30 Central.
Just learned about the online option for today’s variety show … does one have to pre-register in order to gain access to the recorded sessions later?
